Most people knew that when Gov Half-Whit unconstitutionally ordered the shutting down of the state that there would be an economic cost. That anyone didn't know that by now would be knowingly obtuse:
The Detroit Free Press: Report: More than half of Michigan families lost income during pandemic
More than half of Michigan households with children reported lost employment income since March and 15% of households said they were struggling to put food on the table, according to a report released Monday.
Well, that's what happens when you shut down the state and don't allow people to work. That anyone would be surprised that this would be the result is rather incomprehensible.
Perhaps ceasing the orders that prevent people from earning a living might help?
Nope. Instead, the report advocates more woke and big government solutions, many of which are non-sequiturs:
- Put racial and ethnic equity first in policymaking by utilizing data and "engaging community stakeholders."
- Prioritize the physical and mental health needs of all children by guaranteeing that any vaccine be available without cost and retaining the Affordable Care Act. Policymakers should also work to reduce the student-to-school-counselor ratio in schools, the report says.
- Expand access to unemployment insurance to part-time, gig economy workers and low-wage employees and increase access to child care. The report says policymakers should also "eliminate barriers" to accessing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC), and ramp up the availability of public housing.
- Ensure schools are "better funded, more equitably funded and ready to meet the needs of students disparately affected by the pandemic" by increasing school funding and address disparities in technology access at home and in the classroom.
No call in the report to reopen the state nor to get people, including over 250,000 restaurant workers back to work.
Employment opportunity will do more to prevent poverty than putting "racial and ethnic equity' first.
Instead they call for increased welfare and bailout spending for the misery caused by these orders instead of ending the orders that are causing the problem.

These people have completely lost touch with reality.
And by not allowing landlords to evict people for nonpayment of rent, means that when the orders are lifted, people will either be on the hook for a ton of back rent, or will be evicted en-mass, and with an eviction for nonpayment of rent, it will be hard for them to find another place to rent.
And the Democrats want to forgive student loan debt, which will add to the national debt.
I remember when Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy forced the government to back bad mortgages for people who didn't qualify for loans, and when a financial crisis hit, they defaulted on them. The blame went to the Republicans, somehow. No doubt the blame for all of the nation's ills will be passed onto President Trump for the next few decades, since he is the Democrats favorite target. And Hunter Biden and Eric Swalwell,they will be forgotten with all of the bad things that Joe Biden does, before Harris takes over.
