Sochi Rough Time They're Having With A Putin Village

Instead of a Potemkin village, Sochi may bring us the term Putin village.

Instead of a fake village built to impress, a Putin Village seems to be a shambles of unreadiness after spending over $51 Billion to make ready for the Olympics.

Fox News: Sochi squalor: Journalists report hotel horror stories as Russians scramble to finish construction

Yep, horror of horrors, the hotel rooms for the media are still unfinished and unready.

While there is a certain schadenfreude in watching the media sports softies sadly report on how they have to rough it as they're accommodations aren't yet ready, it does raise some questions as to whether Sochi under Putin can handle the games adequately both structurally and security-wise.

Putin's Russia is trying to portray itself as a world power hosting these Olympics, rather than a third world power with nukes that is otherwise falling apart around the periphery beyond Moscow.

Wouldn't take more than a few words to change that to refer to us. Sadly.

Sadly, you're right, and it looks like the fundamental transformation to third world status is proceeding apace.

BTW, with the username you have, were you with the 80th FS?
