Funny Isn't It? "Global Warming/Climate Change" Can Do Everything

Including even messing up a Paris Olympics event:

The Detroit News:  Olympics bet against climate change with swimming in Seine and may lose. Scientists say told you so

In short, the planners for the triathalon thought it wouldn't rain much during the Olympics so it wouldn't be a major issue to have the swim in the Seine.

It in fact did rain, a lot, which caused sewer runoff into the Seine. The fact that it rained is being blamed, of course, on Climate Change.

Now, where would the planners have gotten the idea that it wouldn't rain much?

Why, from the proclamations of scientists that climate change was causing drought and a lack of rainfall - as recently as 2022 and 2023:

France 24:  France’s unprecedented drought shows climate change is ‘spiralling out of control’

euronews: ‘We can’t escape the reality’: France is preparing for 4°C of warming by 2100

So, the Olympics may have went with the prior proclamation from climate change scientists that Climate Change was going to cause droughts and lack of rain rather than today's proclamation -- conveniently after heavy rainfall too place --that climate change causes heavy rain. Or, maybe they just relied on a long-range weather forecast that proved to be wrong?

"Climate Change" bears far more similarity to an unfalsifiable religion than to science as everything, including contradictory things, can be conveniently to be blamed upon it in an ever-changing narrative.

One Very Snazzy Olympic Commercial

Sometimes a commercial can have multiple messages.

Norway's Olympics commercial is an outstanding case in point, and is awesome to boot:

Well played Norway, well played.

Sochi Rough Time They're Having With A Putin Village

Instead of a Potemkin village, Sochi may bring us the term Putin village.

Instead of a fake village built to impress, a Putin Village seems to be a shambles of unreadiness after spending over $51 Billion to make ready for the Olympics.

Fox News: Sochi squalor: Journalists report hotel horror stories as Russians scramble to finish construction

Yep, horror of horrors, the hotel rooms for the media are still unfinished and unready.

While there is a certain schadenfreude in watching the media sports softies sadly report on how they have to rough it as they're accommodations aren't yet ready, it does raise some questions as to whether Sochi under Putin can handle the games adequately both structurally and security-wise.

Putin's Russia is trying to portray itself as a world power hosting these Olympics, rather than a third world power with nukes that is otherwise falling apart around the periphery beyond Moscow.

With Twitter You Can Take Stupid To Olympic Levels

Oh for the good old days when stupid people saying stupid things didn't get 15 minutes of fame for being stupid.

The Detroit Free Press: Twitter rants aimed at Olympics diver lead to teen's arrest

The list of Olympic-related Twitter transgressions turned potentially criminal Tuesday when police arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly making malicious comments following a frenetic exchange of rants against British diver Tom Daley after he fell short of medaling.

Dorset police confirmed that the teenager was arrested at about 2 a.m. Tuesday at a guesthouse in Weymouth. He was charged with suspicion of malicious communications.

Prior to Twitter, the drunken rants and arguments of stupid people probably didn't leave the local pub or their basement. Now the idiots post them on Twitter and people think they're being serious leading to arrests for saying stupid things that previously would have passed without notice.

Even Olympians are taking to Twitter to expose their own stupidity:

The arrest comes hours after the Swiss Olympic Committee expelled soccer player for his offensive comment after Switzerland's 2-1 loss to South Korea.

"Translated from French, Morganella's tweet said he wanted to beat up South Koreans, that they should "burn'' and they were a "bunch of mongoloids.'' Last week, a Greek triple jumper was expelled by Greek officials after she mocked African immigrants.

In other words this French-speaking Switzer guy got his butt whipped by the South Koreans - allegedly 2-1 is a real exciting and major defeat in soccer - so he mouths off as a sore loser. (As an aside to Morganella - those "bunch of mongoloids" kicked your ass in Soccer, so STFU you loser).

Had he kept this to himself, his teammates, or his drunken buddies it would have been one thing. Stupid, but still a limited display of stupid. But no, he had to broadcast stupid to the whole Internet and expose himself to disdain from the whole world and get expelled from the games.

Twitter - The proud sponsor of removing civility and self-restraint on immaturity, racism, and stupidity for the 2012 Olympic Games.
