Lightning Is Often Accompanied By A Thunderbolt

Sure enough, there was a P-47 Thunderbolt at Thunder Over Michigan.

Here's a closeup of her kill markings and name:

This was one productive WWII fighter-bomber.

In the air, it showed it's power and flew with an unexpected grace.

15,678 Thunderbolts of all types were built, yet under 20 are still in flying condition today.

Indeed they were. Sort of like their descendant the A-10 Thundebolt II - ugly yet graceful and beautiful in a functional "I'm gonna kill some bad guys!" kinda way.
