The Archbishop of Canterbury, a known arch-progressive, and the first female head of the Church of England, in a fit of wokeness publicly honored a Muslim Imam -- on the 25th Anniversary of 9/11.
She awarded him the Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation 2026.
The Muslim imam in question, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi himself had presented an earlier award.
He presented it to Osama Bin Laden.
Ashrafi awarded him the title of the award of "Sword of Allah" and that's not all. Ashrafi has supported suicide bombing, Islamic terrorist attacks against Britons and others.
Most people would consider this to be highly irreconcilable and uncooperative regarding other regions.
When these issues were pointed out, and a public outcry over the insanity of giving it to the Imam in the first place ensured, the award was revoked.

Ashrafi received the Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation 2026 from Archbishop of Canterbury Dame Sarah Mullally at Lambeth Palace in London on Sept. 11, the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the United States.

The immediate controversy over the Lambeth award concerns comments Ashrafi made in 2007 following the British knighthood awarded to author Salman Rushdie.
Media reports quoted Ashrafi as saying that the Pakistan Ulema Council would honor bin Laden with the title “Saifullah”, meaning “Sword of God.” He described bin Laden as a “mujahid” (holy warrior) who had fought for Islam against Russians, Americans and Britons.

We may also note that the archbishop, who has made feminism a keystone of her liberal progressive archbishop focus, and has publicly vowed to call out misogyny, also had no issues presenting the award to the Imam as female members of his family looked on - in full burkas. She then failed to call out such misogyny. Funny, that.
The lack of self-awareness among the progressive left and their complete blindness to the clear anti-progressive intolerance of Islam is rather fascinating and disheartening.

As much as I miss my parents, and I miss them terribly, I so very often find myself grateful that they never had to live long enough to see the total stupidity of the left that seems to get worse and worse each day.
My dad was a UAW member for his adult working life, and they were both proud Democrats. Yet I have no doubt that they would never in a million years support the things that the Democrats are doing today.
Heck, JFK himself would likely not be welcomed into the Democrat party now. He would be determined to be "too conservative", meaning that he would be deemed to think for himself much too much.
Unfortunately, I myself have usually voted Republican as they traditionally have been conservative. The more that I actually look now, the more I see that they are not much different than the left, save for the tinsel and window dressing that they hand about their chambers.
I mean, both parties want to take ever more of our freedom away from us. The Democrats because we can't be trusted with freedom, and the Republicans because they are afraid that we will see through their facade and realize that they are power mongers who only wish to fool us enough to remain entrenched in power.
Where are the leaders that we had in 1776 and there about, who are willing to risk life, limb, and reputation, in order to throw the bums out, and usher in men and women who will not rest until the citizens have the freedom restored to themselves?
While I am not afraid, I am sad to say that I am both too old and not talented enough to be anything resembling a leader of the necessary movement. May God raise up someone who is willing and able to right the ship of liberty, and soon, otherwise America risks becoming a footnote in history, much the same as Rome, etc.

Pigpen51: Yep, it is most definitely NOT your parent's Democratic party anymore, and the Republicans are, as you say, not exactly doing a stellar job either.
Old NFO: They are that at the very least, but most likely they are worse and know exactly what they are doing, even if they don't understand all the second- and third-order effects of their pontifications and schemes.
