Scratch A Barcelona Socialist, Find An Antisemite

Barcelona has a rather long history of antisemitism, which can still be seen in its buildings today.

From the attack on the Jewish Quarted of Barcelona in 1391; to the massacre in 1349 when Barcelonians decided to attack Jews blaming them for the Black Plague; to the attack and destruction of the Jewish Quarter in 1391 when at least 3,000 Jews were killed, to the expulsion of the Jews in 1492 and then the Inquisition as well.

So it's always interesting to see the rulers of Barcelona return to their historic trends.

Barcelona City Council is apparently working on a resolution to "un-twin" Barcelona from Tel Aviv in the name of social justice and BDS. How soon Barcelona forgets Tel Aviv standing by Barcelona after the 2017 ISIS terorist attack, or this is simply another example of Barcelona showing the terrorism works.

We'll note the Barcelona City Council is run by The Socialist Party of Catalonia and the Barcelona en Comú party which has a "social justice" theme. Progressives/Socialists as antisemites? Well, no surprise there.

Sadly not surprising at all.

Yes, not a surprise at all. Leftist=Anti-semite.

Barack Obama=Anti Israel
Donald Trump=Pro Israel
Joe Biden=Anti Israel
I dont remeber where the Bushes stood on Israel, But being progressives, I suspect they were luke warm toawrds Israel at best.

What to Obama & Biden have in common? They are both Democrats.

I struggle to understand why the Democrat party gets so much Jewish support. Boggles the mind.
I suspect it is "cultural" Jews supporting Democrats more than Religous Jews. But I dont have a huge amount of data to back this notion up. Just a few experiences with Jewish (By blood rather than religous observance) co-workers who were hard core leftists.
You probaly have a better perspective on this than I do.

ccm2361: Yep, there's a rather clear and ongoing pattern of antisemitism by the Left.

There's also a fair bit still from the right. For example Marjorie Taylor Greens' Jewish Space Lasers comment which while a magnitude less than anything said by Ilhan Omar, was still stupid as heck and reinforced historical stereotypes of Republicans as antisemites.

This really doesn't help things much to shift those who've been raised on an idea that the left is less so when now the Dems are far more antisemitic than Republicans.

MUCH Jewish support for Dems is due to historical voting patterns, and the Dems marketing themselves as being the party of the little guy even as reality shows they've shifted away from that.

Among many cultural Jews there's been a shift from religious observance to progressivism-as-religion which causes some of the support the Dems in the face of all the evidence to the contrary.

In short, it's complicated.
