Oh, But We Should Listen To Science!

Seeing a lot of posts on Facebook that we should listen to scientists during this crisis.

Unfortunately it's the "I Love Science!" Crowd herding us along towards far worse effects than the virus alone.

So do we listen to Ferguson of the Imperial College model fame, the one who has been prophesying doom and gloom in every crisis and saying millions would die if there wasn't a lockdown?

The one who then after the governments bought into his overstated models and the lock downs were declared revised his models on the current crisis downward by over a factor of 20?

While a stopped clock may be correct twice a day, he has in my opinion been consistently wrong in each of his past predictions, so the world has been listening to the wrong scientist.

But wait there's more! It turns out that the model software itself that made these projections and scared the globe into this whole lock down mess is a bunch of hot garbage.

But wait, there's even more!

While we are told that we should listen to Science, meaning Ferguson in his projections of doom and mass death if we don't lock down, he certainly has not been following his own advice and proclamations of doom if lock down is not followed.

Instead, he's been busy stepping out of lockdown for regular shtupping of his married mistress on the side. The best part, his mistress was married and living with her husband who by her account was having the symptoms of being an active Covid-19 case.

No, you really can't make this up.

So in following the advice of scientists, do you follow what they and their models, that have been consistently proven to be wrong, say and follow their prescription of a lock dow? Or do you do as they do and treat the situation as not serious enough to bother with a lock down?

The model was the assumption of that moment in time and if we didn't lock down what MIGHT POSSIBLY happen.

We did lock down and now that it didn't happen your annoyed?
Seriously?

However those places that delayed are showing growth. Why?
They didn't lock down and they started the model over again
with new assumptions so they will also differ and also mask
and isolate even if not locked down. Again they will see a
reduced result.

So if you believe its all wrong... go out and enjoy crowds
and the like. let us know how it goes. If you do get sick
try not to share it.

Old NFO: Yep.

Eck!: No the model as it turns out was crap and based on faulty assumptions and processing, and adjusted downwards by a factor of 20 after scaring everyone into lock down and adjusted downwards without even taking lock down into account due to catching some of the obvious faults baked into the model.

Note Sweden didn't lock down and they have a similar population with a lower death rate than Michigan alone, which did lock down and has just about the same size population of 10 million. Not saying no one would die from it, people will die from the virus, but not nearly the numbers being touted based on crap assumptions and modeling.

In short, yes this is worse than the standard flu, (but likely not worse than say the 1968 Asian flu pandemic where over 100,000 died in the US but no lock down occurred and people got on with it), and I'm not saying it is not, but the lock down was based on bad models and we seem to have hosed our economy and are on the path to causing more deaths and misery (if we haven't already) than if we had not locked down.

My comment, left elsewhere, to a bunch of loonies:
Y’all are freakin nuts. There is a flu going around, much like any virus since ever, & everyone has lost their mind. The media has made this a HUGE event, but only because they latched on to it as it developed; they can’t let it go now. Politicians jumped on it, & now it’s the ONLY THING that is of any consequence. I’m 69 years old, don’t mask, and I did get a sore throat & sniffles a couple weeks ago. I’m ok now- still cutting wood & working the garden, & I don’t expect that to change. Lighten up, live your life.
