‘Zombie’ out for smoke is hit by driver

From the Detroit News:

Police said a man trying to scare motorists while dressed as a zombie was the victim of a hit-and-run accident in west Michigan.

Jeff Stiles’ injuries were not considered life-threatening Saturday, but he was admitted to a hospital, the Grand Rapids Press reported. He was hit by a car in Nunica in Ottawa County.

County sheriff’s Sgt. Matt Wilfong said Stiles, 45, was attending a Halloween party as a zombie when he stepped outside to smoke a cigarette.

Well, Mr. Stiles likely succeeded in scaring a motorist, with some crunchy results. Heck, I bet his costume was a real hit.

While pistols may have little stopping power, a 4,000 pound vehicle (average weight of US vehicle fleet, as we don't know what kind of car hit him) moving along the road seems to have some decent knock-down power.

Airflow problems plague CDC bioterror lab

A $214 million bioterror germ lab at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta has had repeated problems with airflow systems designed to help prevent the release of infectious agents, government documents and internal e-mails show.

While the agency says no one has been infected, a biosafety expert says the problems appear to be major violations of laboratory operating standards.

The area of the building with problems involves Biosafety Level 3 labs that can be used for experiments involving anthrax, dangerous strains of influenza, the SARS coronavirus, monkeypox and other microbes that have the potential to be used as bioweapons.

Hmm, and we're now experiencing a strange outbreak of face-eating zombies.

Nothing to see here, nope nothing at all, just a coincidence I'm sure.....

The global economy is being hobbled by a new generation of zombies — the economic walking dead.

Maybe I need to get a few of the Zombie Targets that Tam likes so much, to you know, help out the economy and all that.

Of course blaming the zombies is rather like blaming the victim now isn't it? The state of the economy certainly couldn't just be due to some leader's economic incompetence and lousy ideologically-driven policies being the cause, now could it?
