It's Governor Half-Whit Versus The Legislature In An Authority Throw Down

It's about to get interesting in Michigan as the conflict between the Legislature and the Governor accelerates.

The Michigan House and Senate are not pleased with the Governor's ignoring them and deciding to rule by diktat, and her stating that she refuses any negotiation and any such discussion is political games:

"I am not going to engage in political negotiations with anybody. We don’t have time for politics and games when people’s lives are on the line."

In short, she really wants that VP slot, doesn't she?

And so the legislature has responded, and will most likely not renew the emergency powers granted to her under the 1976 Act, and then went a little bit farther:

The Detroit News: Michigan House OKs lawsuit to limit Whitmer's powers

Arguably, as much as she claims to be acting under the 1945 Emergency Powers act, she's really operating under the 1976 Emergency Management Act.

Now, the 1976 Act requires the legislature to renew it and it is refusing to renew it unless she negotiates with them regarding reopening the state safely and to quit being arbitrary and excessive.

Since her response to their requests to date was that she gave them the figurative finger and decided to go full-on dictator, it sure looks like the legislature is not going to renew the 1976 Act.

That leaves her with powers granted to her under the 1945 Act.

There's a little problem with that. The 1945 Act arguably doesn't give her the powers to do everything she's doing under her executive orders, which is why she keeps requesting the legislature to reauthorize the 1976 Act so she can do whatever she so desires.

Yep, this is going to get interesting.
