Apparently background checks on executive security personnel are optional - Report: Detroit/Wayne Port Authority hired felon for security director position
The Detroit Free Press:
Federal agents are investigating after a former Coast Guard petty officer who extorted $35,000 from a person living in the U.S. illegally was hired as security director for the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority.
Given the ongoing corruption and convictions that are taking place in Wayne County, it seems like a felony really is either a prerequisite or a post-appointment requirement for high level executive positions in the county.
