Checking Out His Possible Future Residence, Or Just To Visit An Old Buddy?

The Detroit News: Obama to visit Kilpatrick’s prison in Oklahoma

President Barack Obama will visit Kwame Kilpatrick’s federal prison in Oklahoma on Thursday, offering a reminder of how far their careers and fortunes have diverged since both were viewed as rising political figures eight years ago.

The News then quotes Kilpatrick's memoirs:

Kilpatrick wrote that he felt pride at seeing a fellow African-American win the historic election, but he writes that feeling later turned to enmity.

Kilpatrick writes he “hated on” Obama “a little, asking God, ‘Why? Why him and not me?’”

Because you got caught red-handed with your hand in the cookie jar Kwame, that's why. Well, that and your opponents were other Democrats so the media wouldn't keep covering up for you in the face of your blatant corruption.

Why Gun Control Won't Work - A Continuing Series

When the state can't even keep bullets out of a maximum security prison, it must be hard for gun banners to keep a straight face when they allege gun control and gun bans will work in an open society and such bans will transform it into the mythical gun-free nirvana.

The Detroit News: Bullets found in Ionia prison still puzzling

After all, if the state can't prevent the importation of bullets into a maximum security facility, and indeed the manufacture of homemade guns inside such a facility, it's rather hard to credibly allege that you will stop the existence of firearms in any environment less controlled than a prison. As the examples show, even a prison environment won't make a perfect ban achievable.

If you Can't Keep Guns Out Of Jail, What Chance Gun Control?

Jail, perhaps one of the most, if not the most regulated, screened, controlled and "secure" locations ever. Inmates are, of course, prohibited from possessing weapons, much less firearms.

The Detroit News: Wayne County Jail on lockdown after gun discovered

The discovery of a weapon Friday morning at the Wayne County Jail has caused a lockdown.

"Due to our jail protocol, a weapon was recovered in an area of Division I this morning," said Paula Bridges, press director for the Office of the Wayne County Sheriff. "It is a matter the sheriff takes extremely seriously.

"An investigation is under way to determine how it got there. Beyond that, I have no further comment."

If you can't even keep firearms out of the hands of inmates in jail, then so much for any chance of effective gun control in the real world.
