Chris Christie "willing to talk about gun laws"

Meanwhile in New Jersey, Chris Christie, fresh off holding Obama's hand, is announcing he's willing to discuss gun control: Christie says he's willing to talk about gun laws

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Wednesday that he's willing to have a conversation about stricter gun laws, but says policymakers also must address the mental health system, improve access to drug treatment and look at the impact of violent video games.

Christie made the comments on NBC's "Today" show, one of five national television appearances he was making Wednesday morning, one day after his annual State of the State address.

"If all we talk about is just controlling guns we're not doing enough," he said on "CBS This Morning. "We need to talk about mental illness ... and substance abuse."

The Republican is also on the cover of this week's edition of Time magazine.

Christie, who is seeking re-election this year, has had a high profile in the political world for a few years, but it's risen more since Superstorm Sandy crashed into New Jersey last October.

And that his profile has risen after he started praising Obama to the skies is pure coincidence, of course.

Apparently his staff unaccountably failed to tell Christie that he's not running for re-election as a Democrat.

On the other hand, he's in New Jersey so perhaps he's just saying the "right things" to win reelection in a Democrat area and he won't actually push or support for more ineffective and burdensome gun control laws and actually will push for a closer look at mental health and media issues that seem to be the real root cause of these shootings.

I sadly suspect otherwise.

Further, any bets on the Republican establishment trumpeting that it is Christie's turn in 2016?

Sigh.
