It seems the S.S. Central America, one of the richest shipwrecks in American history, still has some gold in her hull.
The Detroit Free Press: 1,000 ounces of gold recovered from 1857 shipwreck.
With gold at around $1,309 an ounce, that's $1,309,000 retrieved off the ocean bottom in just one exploratory dive, with more to follow.
