Playing With Dirt Day

Today was a home maintenance day, and the focus was on the outdoors.

Comcast's idea of burying cable seems to have consisted of a tiny layer of dirt, and that has fully eroded away, leaving the bright orange cable out for all to see in multiple spots on the lawn, just waiting to get sliced when the lawn is cut.

Having the cable just lying out like that wouldn't do. In addition, the side of the house has a bit of erosion and some earth needs to be placed there to cover some of the basement wall that ought to be buried.

So after buying 9 forty pound bags of dirt, I was all set for covering up the exposed cable, tamping the earth down, and then covering the new soil patches with some grass seed.

The kids then had fun watering the patches and getting themselves soaked while doing so.

About 4 bags sufficed to cover all the exposed cable, which left 5 for the side of the house which wasn't enough, but at least it's a start. Next weekend another 9 bags or so should do it, then I'll put some gravel on top by the house for drainage and to stop the soil from running off. I also did the lawn fertilizer and weed treatment and that was enough maintenance for one day.

Nice turn of phrase. Yes, that was about 30 feet worth of surfacenet that is now back to being underground where it belongs.
