It's Not Like We Didn't Tell You That Woke Policies Have Consequences

Ah, those lovely and oh-so predictable moments when those woke-inspired policy choices come back to bite the Progressives in the butt.   Sadly thenon-woke get to suffer the consequences of their policy choices as well.

1. Defund the Police:  Conservatives and others with common sense pointed out this was not a good idea and would lead to more crime and violence.

To no one's surprise, it did lead to increased crime and violence.

The Oregonian, first supported the defund the police movement, and defunding the Portland Police’s gun violence team in particular. They are now shocked, simply shocked, and dismayed at the violence, shootings and deaths that have resulted.

The Oregonian is now advocating to reinstate the Portland Police’s gun violence team  after the reality of the crime increase after its disbandment and to actually fund the police, but the woke running Portland still have other ideas and will likely double-down on their failure.

2.  Ending Cash Bail / Low Bail:  Again, this has been pointed out to be a very bad idea with lots of consequences by releasing criminals onto the streets to continue to commit crimes.

Yep this Illinois state senator, advocated for and passed the law for eliminating cash bail. He's now all sorts of surprised when he's a victim of crime and the criminal who committed the crime against him gets out on low bail and can go on committing crimes?

At least it's nice that someone who passed this idiotic law has to live with the consequences of his actions rather than being able to wall himself from the consequences of those actions.  This no cash bail policy has led to more crime everywhere it has been tried in the US so far, yet the progressives show no signs of backing away from this crime-increasing policy.

These defund the police and no cash bail policies are brought to you by the same fools who couldn't figure out the correlation between criminals being locked up and resulting low crime rates.

The Criminal Revolving Door In Detroit

One of the main problems involving crimes by criminals with firearms is not the firearm.

Instead, the pattern adopted by areas with high amounts of violent crime is to have a revolving door where violent criminals are released on no bond, or low bond and are free to continue their violent crime sprees.

The Detroit News: Detroit police Chief Craig speaking out against bond decision in case involving late officer

In Detroit, it is often the 36th District Court and its judges that set bond, and they seem to go out of their way to let criminals out.

Per the article, you can point a firearm at police officers while fleeing police and getting into a crash and then be released - with no bond in March of this year:

[36th District Judge's] decision to free two men from jail without having to post bond after they allegedly pointed a gun at a police corporal and his partner before leading officers on a high-speed chase that ended when the car plowed into a police cruiser.

That is unacceptable and it's not the only example.

Chief Craig reports that 75% of those arrested while illegally carrying firearms are released with no or low bond  - any wonder why violent crime is up in Detroit (and other locales with a similar revolving door)?

Progressives calling for gun control and gun bans while at the same time you have progressive judges releasing violent criminals who use guns in crimes out of jail wholesale is the height of ineffective insanity.

Catch and Release, and Catch and Release, and Catch and Release Again

It's very refreshing for criminals when they do not have to post bail and instead are released immediately upon arrest.

In this way with no cash bail,  they can become a one-criminal daily crime wave.

FoxKTVU: California man arrested three times in one day, given citation and released due to state zero-bail policy

Dijon Landrum was arrested for braking into and stealing a car at around 8:28 am.

He was arrested and then immediately released without bail.

An hour later he was caught leaving a home with stolen property.

He was arrested and then immediately released without bail.

Less than twelve hours later, at 8:28pm he was then arrested again after  fleeing officers after stealing another car.

Yes, he was again booked and released without bail.

3 felonies in less than 24 hours.  Oh, and he's still free to wander and commit more crimes.

This no cash bail policy so highly touted by the progressives as being just and equitable for the poor is instead releasing criminals to prey upon poor communities and others with impunity. Great for criminals but leading to rising crime rates everywhere its been tried

Sadly our local newly elected progressive county prosecutor is pushing for eliminating cash bail as well.  Expect crime to rise here in a similar fashion as a result.

No, The Democrats Going Even Farther Leftward Won't Be An Improvement For The County

Nolan Finley of the Detroit News believes it is a good thing that Oakland County's current Democrat Prosecutor Jessica Cooper lost her primary to Democrat Karen McDonald.

He should be careful what he wishes for and what he's thankful for as he may just get it good and hard.

Unfortunately, unless he believes that the Democrats, by selecting an even more progressive prosecuting attorney candidate than Cooper will help persuade the county's law and order voters to go for the Republican candidate, he couldn't be more wrong.

Ms. McDonald is far more "progressive"  than Cooper, backs BLM, claims to be against "mass incarceration" - the buzzword meaning  criminals and especially criminals of a minority hue shouldn't be locked up for crimes.

She also promises to protect "immigrants"  read illegals.

She is also pushing the criminal justice Overton window ever leftward towards anarcho-tyranny - complete with a plan to eliminate cash bail to let offenders go free which has been such a smashing hit success in New York, if you count the number of repeat offenders constantly released after offenses to go forth and offend again and again.  No content with the elimination of cash bail, she at the same time promises to establish an Orwellian hate crimes unit.

What could possibly go wrong?

Well, the people of Oakland County will know have a stark choice between McDonald and Republican Lin Goetz for the prosecuting attorney spot.

Given how this county has been turning Blue, with an influx of former Wayne County residents who desire the same policies that made them want to leave Wayne County adopted here, that choice may not go how Finley would prefer and Oakland County residents will be the worse off for it.

Defund The Police, Let The Criminals Out Of Jail, What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

The progressive left seem determined to reverse the progress Detroit has made with reducing its (still really high) crime rate.

First they want to "Defund the Police" whatever that may mean and they carefully shift the definition depending on the response they receive, as they make ridiculous comparisons between the City's Department of Health budget and the police budget. Quick tip - most healthcare in this state and country doesn't come from the city level, whereas police protection does come form the city budget.

They want to do away with Project Greenlight as it's been rather too effective in reducing criminal activity in areas - criminals get caught on camera and facial rec identifies them. They don't like that so they've literally had car caravans block traffic near City Counsel members homes - and even the wokest city council member ain't havin' none o' that.

Then they want to simultaneously spring criminals out of jail without bail or any promise that they will show up for their hearings for offenses like, well, unarmed robbery: The Detroit Free Press: How nonprofits are getting people out of metro Detroit jails during COVID-19 pandemic - Do note that it takes until the bottom of the fifth paragraph before their poster child for no bail, who was worried about family members with cancer and catching the Wu-Flu in jail herself, was in jail for unarmed robbery.

Maybe she shouldn't have done the crime in the first place had she been so concerned about the consequences, right? The article of course sets her out as a sympathetic and of course discriminated against because she's Black. The victim of her unarmed robbery was apparently not available for comment.

So the mob in Detroit is calling for defunding the police, eliminating cameras in high crime areas, and allowing offenders to stay out of jail after committing crimes.

What could possibly go wrong?

Showing Up Is Oftimes Half The Battle

Failing to show up by contrast causes you to lose, and lose badly, and can make other people lose too.

Yes, it's another call from a potential and unlikely-to-actually-retain-me client.

Apparently she had put up a bail bond for her boyfriend. Yes, you can see where this is going already, can't you?

Boyfriend however has decided he doesn't want to go to jail.

The pre-sentencing report apparently does show that he is indeed going to jail for his offense, but he didn't want to go just yet, and decided to skip his sentencing hearing. This decision makes the court distinctly unhappy.

This of course triggers forfeiture of his bond, so the 10% cash she put down is going bye-bye, and the court has scheduled a show cause for next week for her to show up to pay the remaining and quite significant 90%.

There are things that can be done to fix this, but the most important requirement is he has to turn himself in or be apprehended before the show cause to make this work.

He doesn't want to turn himself in just yet apparently because he has a family event he'd rather not miss coming up in a week or so.

Now, had he communicated with the court about this instead of skipping the sentencing hearing, the court likely would have granted him some time to go to the event and all would be well. Instead, now he's looking instead to get thrown in jail immediately the minute any officer happens to come across him, and my bet is they will be looking for him at the event as they're not dumb, and his girlfriend is about to lose lots of money.

I advised her that she does need an attorney for the process to try to prevent her bond being forfeited and a major requirement to have a shot at getting the bond money back is the boyfriend needs to turn himself in before that hearing next week happens. My bet is I won't be retained, he won't turn himself in, and she will be paying thousands of dollars to the court or will be joining him in jail.

This is why you don't lend money on behalf of, or to, known criminals, your chance of getting it back is rather slim.
