"Daqduq played a central role in advancing terrorist attacks and combat operations against Israel and IDF soldiers. In 2007, he orchestrated the kidnapping and murder of 5 American soldiers." 

Good riddance to very bad rubbish.  Daqduq was behind the killing of five US troops in Karbala, Iraq in 2007.  Yes, Hezbollah, Iran, and Iraqi insurgents were working together to kill Americans then, and they still are now.

The murderer of CPT Brian Scott Freeman; 1LT Jacob Noal Fritz; SPC Jonathan Bryan Chism; PFC Shawn Patrick Falter; and PVT Jonathon Miles Millican has finally met justice.

YGTBSM: 2-Day Memorial In Southfield, Michigan For Death Of Iranian General

Yep, our "friends" in the Iraqi Consulate in Southfield, Michigan are actually going to put on a memorial for the "condolences for the lives of the righteous martyrs who were killed"

You know, righteous martyrs who were responsible for the deaths of Americans in Iraq and abroad. We should also note Soleimani and those with him was also responsible for the deaths of lots of Iraqis as well.

You'll note they haven't been very forthcoming with memorials to Americans killed in Iraq, at all.,

A Very Proportionate Message Sent

Via a couple well-aimed missiles.

Since Solemani was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans in Iraq, as Iran was backing anti-American forces in Iraq and providing them with weapons, technology, training and advisors, and apparently since he was behind the attack on the US Embassy, having him taken out in Baghdad is a rather measured response.

It's interesting to see all the hand-waving about this being an escalation.

To continue to ignore Solemani's and the Qud's forces actions against Americans both in Iraq and around the world served only to embolden such attacks and allow them to cointinue.

About time such a message was sent that such attacks will no longer be tolerated and that Iran cannot continue its attacks unanswered.

34 Years Ago, An Israeli Operatic Masterpiece

On June 7, 1981, the Israeli Air Force launched Operation Opera.

Operation Opera was the mission to destroy Iraq's nuclear reactor at Osirak and delaying Iraq's attempt to obtain a nuclear bomb. The operation was a complete success.

Eight F-16As with six F-15As flying air cover participated in the attack, flying a round trip of 1980 miles over enemy airspace with aircraft all returning safely.  The F-16s dropped sixteen 2,000 pound bombs on the reactor, severely damaging it and putting it out of action.

The picture below shows one of the few existing aircraft in the world with a nuclear reactor kill marker on its nose.  This aircraft, Netz 107, is one of the F-16s that took part in the raid. 

Note also the six and half Syrian MIG kill markings, making this the F-16 aircraft with the largest amount of air-to-air kills in the world so far:

While the world, including the United States, condemned Israel for the attack at the time,  history showed it was the right decision.

Imagine what Gulf War 1 and Gulf War 2 would have been like with an Iraq armed with nuclear weapons. Most likely, Kuwait would still be under the Iraqi flag today.

US News: U.S. Announces Plan for Massive Counter-ISIS Attack

OPSEC, this administration hasn't got it. Announcing the troop strength, date and location of an upcoming offensive for the world and the enemy to see is generally not considered a good practice.

My bet is the State Department is behind the announcement.

After all, In their view it's not a military offensive but a jobs fair, and they want to let all of ISIS know where they can submit their applications.

For the Obama administration, the situation is clearly desperate but not serious.

At a hearing on ISIL in Iraq and Syria on Tuesday, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) expressed shock and dismay about a news report detailing the terrorists' enslavement and sexual abuse of women and girls.
Boxer told a State Department human rights official that her staffers had just handed her "the most shocking article" -- in Q&A format -- describing the circumstances in which non-Muslim women and girls may be taken captive and raped by ISIL.

"This is disgusting stuff," Boxer told Tom Malinowski, an assistant secretary for democracy, human rights and labor at the State Department. She asked Malinowski to verify if the report was true. "If this is real, people need to understand this," she said.

"So, this kind of thing is absolutely real," Malinowski responded. "These things are happening. We have seen Daesh (ISIL) put out on its social media, on its Web site...these kinds of justifications before. It just shows the degree of depravity and just the baseness of the ideology that is at the heart of this..."

I'm simply shocked that it took her this long to be shocked.

Remember, she's a Senator and Chair of the frickin' Senate Foreign Relations Committee and so supposedly well informed on world affairs and on top of things like ISIL.  It's not like this is new information or anything.

Sadly, it appears she was far more focused on the domestic faux-war-on-women than the real one happening in the Levant.

Obama: U.S. underestimated Islamic State

You don't say Mr. ISIL is "a JV team".

Not to worry though, he still doesn't have a coherent strategy, and he certainly can't say the V word (victory) over Islamic extremists.

Apparently this is the closest to a statement we might get as to the strategy that isn't a strategy:

"We just have to push them back, and shrink their space, and go after their command and control, and their capacity, and their weapons, and their fueling, and cut off their financing, and work to eliminate the flow of foreign fighters," Obama told CBS in the interview taped Friday, according to excerpts released by the network.

And then what exactly, declare they're back to being a JV team and leave and ignore them until they cause another problem?

This is of course, assuming such a laundry list of nebulous and ill-defined goals can really be done without "boots on the ground" (Yes I know we have some on the ground now, but acording to Obama they don't count and aren't really there, there and aren't boots-boots.

I just hoping there's already some AF CCTs and 5th SFG boots on the ground effectively directing air strikes, but that may be too much to ask for.

One can only hope the advisers are bringing their laser-designators with them, as air strikes without spotters on the ground are not nearly as effective.

The "no boots on the ground" statement is one of two things, both of which are revealing. Either it was an empty promise with the famed Obama expiry date from the start to appease his base; or it was a statement that reveals he has no clue what an intervention along with air strikes requires and he's in way over his head on foreign affairs after making pronouncements with no idea what the follow-through involves.

Either way while the intervention in Iraq is the right thing to do, Obama's being dragged kicking and screaming into doing it, and he's begrudgingly doing it in the least effective way possible.

Hoist, Meet Petard.

It seems like the push for action and airstrikes in Iraq is running into a bit of an intelligence problem:

The CIA and other spy agencies are scrambling to close intelligence gaps as they seek ways to support possible military or covert action against the leaders of the al-Qaida-inspired militant group that has seized parts of Iraq and threatens Baghdad’s government.

The lack of clear intelligence appears to have shifted President Barack Obama’s immediate focus away from airstrikes in Iraq because officials said there are few obvious targets. However, officials said no final decisions had been made and suggested Obama ultimately could approve strikes if strong targets do become available.

Hmm, now why could this be?

Obama’s decision-making on airstrikes has been complicated by intelligence gaps that resulted from the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq in late 2011, which left the country largely off-limits to American operatives. Intelligence agencies are now trying to close gaps and identify possible targets that include insurgent encampments, training camps, weapons caches and other stationary supplies, according to U.S. officials.

So in the rush to declare victory and leave, Obama deliberately failed to obtain a Status of Forces Agreement to keep troops in place and ripped up the very intelligence networks he needs now to act intelligently to provide air strikes requested by the Iraqi government.

Well, at least now we know what could possibly go wrong with that.

Any way you name it, a bunch of members of Al Qaeda in Iraq just managed to blow themselves up real good.

Fox News (Associated Press): Militants accidentally set off own car bomb at training camp in Iraq, leaving 21 dead

Notice how the AP labels people making car bombs and suicide vests designed to go off in crowded civilian areas "militants". Even that linguistic bias supporting the enemy can't take away from the happy gist of the story:

Militants accidentally set off their own car bomb Monday at a training camp in the countryside north of Baghdad, leaving 21 dead and resulting in two dozen arrests, Iraqi officials said.

. . . .

A police officer said the militants were attending a lesson on making car bombs and explosive belts when a glitch set off one of the devices.

The officer said security forces rushed to the area after hearing the sound of the explosion. They arrested 12 wounded suspected militants plus another 10 trying to flee the area.

Security forces found seven car bombs, several explosive belts and roadside bombs after searching two houses and a garage in the orchard, he said.

Oh those wacky Iraqis, always going out with a bang.

Israel In Obama's New And Improved Middle East

Hamas continues to fire rockets that have hit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

It looks like Israel may expand the defensive measures to include ground forces to force Hamas to quit firing rockets at Israel. Hopefully that will be a success and they won't stop until they achieve a decisive victory against Hamas, or at least as decisive as possible before the UN and the US imposes a ceasefire to keep the conflict simmering.

Egypt's new (Obama supported) Muslim brotherhood government is coming out in support of its little-brother Muslim brotherhood Hamas and against Israel. Completely unexpected, at least by the Obama Administration.

Iran continues to move forward and accelerate its efforts toward making a nuclear weapon.

Meanwhile, there's protests against the king in Jordan.

The killing in Syria continues but has managed to slip out of the news except for Hillary offering Syria, presumably the new and improved anti-Syrian government coalition, $30 million in humanitarian aid.

And in a further example of Obama's smart new cohesive Middle East policy, just in time for the weekend: Iraq just released Hezbollah member Ali Mussa Daqduq and returned him to Lebanon, against US requests. So you know, Hezbollah's Daqdug was behind an attack in Iraq that killed 5 US soldiers. The US had him in custody in Iraq but under the Obama pull-out turned him over to the Iraqis and now he's free to kill more Americans.

How about that, Obama is just doing a bang-up job on Middle East policy.

Waiting for the UN, US to condemn Iran for invading Iraq

Outrage is growing in Iraq's northern Kurdish territories over renewed Iranian air and artillery strikes against Kurdish rebels in the remote Qandil Mountains, officials and residents said.

Last week, Iran even sent ground forces about a mile into Iraqi territory, a brief incursion that Kurdish officials said elicited not a word of protest from the Iran-friendly administration of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki, who like Iran's rulers is a Shiite Muslim. Most Iraqi Kurds are Sunni Muslims.

"The breach of the Iranian troops on the borders of the Kurdistan region is a violation of the sovereignty of Iraq and international agreements,"

Sorry, the UN is too busy condemning Israel to take notice.

The US, even with Iraq having US troops in place and Iran contributing to the attacks against our troops - where's the harsh statements from Obama condemning such a violent attack against civilians of another sovereign country. Heck, where's the US air defenses and counterbattery fire?

Oh yes, Obama is too busy pontificating on the Israeli blockade of Gaza that is used to protect civilians from rocket fire and terrorists from Gaza.

Too bad for the Kurds that they haven't learned the secrets to gaining the world's sympathy:

1. Blow lots of stuff up and kill lots of civilians around the world.
2. Publicly demonstrate and proclaim that you hate Jews.
3. Have friends with lots of oil reserves.
4. Repeat 1, 2 and 3 while claiming you're a defenseless victim.

A Seal of Approval - SEAL Acquited in assault on Terrorist Charge

As I wrote before, as an example of lawfare the enemies of our country engage in, some SEALS were charged with assault involving the capture of a terrorist, who claimed they punched him when they captured him.

The SEALS are being tried via courts martial and the first SEAL was quite properly acquitted.

Fox News: US Navy SEAL cleared in Iraq abuse case

A U.S. Navy SEAL was cleared Thursday of charges he covered up the alleged beating of an Iraqi prisoner suspected of masterminding the grisly 2004 killings of four American security contractors.

A six-man Navy jury found Petty Officer 1st Class Julio Huertas not guilty of dereliction of duty and attempting to influence the testimony of another service member. The jury heard too many differences between the testimony of a sailor who claimed he witnessed the Sept. 1 assault at a U.S. base outside Fallujah, Iraq, and statements from a half-dozen others who denied his account.

Smiling and composed as he left the courthouse at the U.S. military's Camp Victory on Baghdad's western outskirts, Huertas said he felt vindicated.

"It's a big weight off my shoulders," said Huertas, 29, of Blue Island, Illinois. "Compared to all the physical activity we go through, this has been mentally more challenging."

Huertas said he would rejoin the SEALs, the Navy's elite special forces, as soon as possible. His was the first trial of three SEALs accused in the assault of Ahmed Hashim Abed and its alleged cover up.

Good, he deserves to be fully reinstated with all honors and put back on the proper promotion path as well.

Of course the natives of Fallujah - that hotbed of the Sunni violence being a pro-Saddam, anti-American hot spot weren't happy:

Thursday's verdict was met by anger and sad shrugs from Iraqis who said they no longer expect to see U.S. troops held accountable for atrocities or other abuses.

"They would release him even if he had killed an Iraqi and not just beaten him," said Ahmed Abdul Aziz Khudaeir, teacher in Fallujah.

Abed, who is a suspected terrorist, claimed in his testimony that he had nothing to do with the 2004 attack on four Blackwater Worldwide security guards whose bodies were burned and dragged through the streets of Fallujah in what became a turning point of the Iraq war. Two of the bodies were hanged from a bridge over the Euphrates River, and Abed was the focus of an Iraq-wide manhunt by U.S. forces in the following years.

Too bad, so sad but you're not getting a SEAL to have as a trophy, your terrorist buddy lost and the good guy won.

I do wonder what Khudaeir was doing during the 2004 battle of Fallujah between the Marines and the insurgents.

In any case, this was a proper result and ending to a case that shouldn't have been brought in the first place.

It's a good thing the military jury understands the nature of this war -

"There was no abuse," Monica Lombardi, Huertas' civilian attorney, told the jury. She said Abed could have bit his lip on purpose to cast blame on U.S. troops, calling it "classic terrorist training."

The jury was smart enough to know the truth and justice prevailed. 3 more of these ridiculous trials to go, hopefully with the same proper result.

Biden in Iraq, Announces US will retry Blackwater guards dismissal

In a fit of politics over substance, Vice President Biden while in Iraq announced that the Blackwater guards alleged to have improperly opened fire while on convoy duty in Iraq, whose cases were dismissed by a Federal district Court judge due to prosecutorial misconduct will be appealed.

Biden: US to appeal dismissal of Blackwater case

The U.S. will appeal a court decision dismissing manslaughter charges against five Blackwater Worldwide guards involved in a deadly 2007 Baghdad shooting, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said Saturday.

Biden's announcement after a meeting with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani shows just how diplomatically sensitive the incident remains nearly three years later. A lawyer for one guard, noting that word of the intended appeal came in Iraq, accused the Obama administration of political expediency and said the U.S. was pursuing an innocent man, rather than justice.

You'll recall the case was dismissed in December 2009:

Judge Ricardo M. Urbina of Federal District Court in Washington wrote that the government’s mishandling of the case “requires dismissal of the indictment against all the defendants.”

In a “reckless violation of the defendants’ constitutional rights...Judge Urbina found that “in their zeal to bring charges,” investigators and prosecutors had extensively used those statements, disregarding “the warning of experienced, senior prosecutors” that “the course of action threatened the viability of prosecution.”

“The explanations offered by the prosecutors and investigators in an attempt to justify their actions and persuade the court that they did not use the defendants’ compelled testimony were all too often contradictory, unbelievable and lacking in credibility,” Judge Urbina wrote.

The judge also criticized prosecutors for withholding “substantial exculpatory evidence” from the grand jury that indicted the defendants, as well as for presenting “distorted versions” of witnesses’ testimony and improperly telling the grand jury that some incriminating statements had been made by the defendants but were being withheld. ”

Its certainly peculiar that an American Vice president would announce the continued persecution of Americans in America after a massively flawed process in the underlying case, while he is in Iraq for the benefit of politics. After all Vice President Biden while in Iraq was clear in that he didn't want to interfere in Iraqi politics. lets hope that Iraqi politics doesn't interfere with American justice.

Accident in Iraq

A recent accident report from Iraq:

A U.S. Marine squad was marching north of Fallujah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist, badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened. The Marine reported, "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent."

We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road.

I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable, lowlife scum bag who got what he deserved.

He yelled back that Barrack Obama is a dumb, good-for-nothing, left wing liberal faggot who doesn't know how to drive.

So I said that Osama Bin Ladin dresses and acts like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian!

He retaliated by yelling, "Oh yeah? Well, so does Hillary Clinton!"

"And, there we were, in the middle of the road, shaking hands, when a truck hit us."

A Recently Read Book Worth Recommending

If you want a non-stop, cannot put down non-fiction story of modern war, I'd heartily recommend

The book is about the 2004 deployment of a battalion of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment to Al-Amarah in Iraq and how a company of the battalion was cut off and besieged by the Moqtada Al Sadr's forces. The engagement has been reenacted in Andy mcNabb's Tour of Duty series on the BBC, with some of the actual troops interviewed for the episode (no DVD available yet in the states but you can catch it on the military Channel on TV sometimes).

Mills, the author was the Sergeant in command of the company's sniper platoon and he gives an engaging, well-written account of the unit in action, with a particular focus on his sniper platoon. Certainly this is one of the best war memoirs I've ever read - full of typical British humor, understatement, and tense descriptions of action and the life of the troops in Iraq. It makes you appreciate that the British are on our side and that regardless of the craziness of the British government in wussifying their citizens, the British soldier is still every bit the lion he (and she) has always been, and are valued allies.

The Muslim way of War

The use of schools, hospitals and Mosques by Muslims as as weapons stores, firing points and locations for ambushes is nothing new, and not unique to the Arab-Israeli conflict, and indeed goes back centuries.

One of the first recorded uses of a mosque as a weapons dump was in 1687. The Turkish armies, in control of Athens at the time, used the Parthenon, which had been converted into a mosque, as a gunpowder magazine. The Turks were fighting the Venetians, and when a Venetian shell hit the Parthenon, blowing up a good portion of it.

In 1948, Arab snipers shot at Jewish civilians from the minaret of theHassan Bek mosque during the 1948 Israeli War of Independence.

In Iraq, US forces have faced Muslims firing from Mosques, and have seen Mosques used as command posts and weapons storage. of course, whenever US forces fire back or even enter the Mosques, they are condemned for invading sacred Islamic space. As before, Arabs in Gaza have been using Mosques as weapons dumps and firing points, not to mention using hospitals and mosques as command post and of course, schools.

The West, with a military code of honor that eschews using religious, hospital, ambulances, and schools as military fortifications is subject to Muslim cries of outrages destruction of these sites, even as the Muslims fiendishly use them for military purposes, which is in itself a war crime.

Until the western media accurately report the facts, namely that the these buildings were used for military purposes and destroyed in response, and properly attribute the blame upon the Muslims for using them for military purposes, Muslims will continue to fight in this manner, gaining both the utility of the sites, the protection of western hesitation to respond to attacks from such sites, and the beenfit of the western media's blind acceptance and rebroadcasting of the Muslims "outrage" over destruction of these militarily used sites. Indeed, for the media to continue to do so constitutes journalistic malpractice.

Iraqi Spies Caught in US now how about Iran's?

The Detroit News reports on a group of Michigan Iraqi's that are being tried for passing on intelligence and spying for Iraq.

Among the accused spies is one who worked for the US Military as an Arabic translator:

Issam George Hamama, 58, a former Sterling Heights resident who lives in California, worked as an Iraqi translator for the U.S. military until the indictment against him was unsealed in November.

Hamama allegedly wrote a letter about 1991 to an Iraqi cabinet minister, offering to work to counteract Iraqi traitors in the U.S. From that date, Hamama met periodically with representatives of the Iraqi Intelligence Service and received periodic payments for providing information about anti-Saddam individuals and groups inside the United States, the indictment alleges.

Hamama's Washington, D.C., attorney, Haytham Faraj, said Hamama has received "multiple accolades" from military commanders for his work as a civilian translator. "We are confident that the evidence will vindicate Mr. Hamama as the honorable, patriotic, loyal American that he is," Faraj said.

Sure, did he get the acolades after it was revealed he was a spy or before? I'm sure people thought Walker and Aldrick Ames were great Americans too until the truth came out.

It's good the FBI caught these iraqi spies, but they found them only from documents found after the downfall of Saddam, and thus after their active use by the Iraqis.

One hopes they are being more diligent with Hizballah, Hamas and Iranian spies and agents of influence that are active here and now.

Muthanna Al-Hanooti, 49, a former official of the Southfield-based Muslim charity Life for Relief and Development, was indicted on conspiracy and other charges in March. He is accused of working with Iraqi intelligence officials to get the U.S. to lift economic sanctions and organizing a trip to Iraq by former U.S. Rep. David Bonior and other congressmen that was secretly funded by the Iraqi Intelligence Service. He is from Dearborn Heights.

A little digging shows this was the trip the three Democrat Congressmen: McDermott (D-Seattle-Useful idiot), David Bonior (D-used to be Michigan, Useful Idiot) and Mike Thompson (D-California-Useful idiot took to Iraq, paid for by a "concerned Iraqi" - and the Iraqi intelligence service.

Some Mideast Irony

Sometimes the irony that is the instanity of the islamist Middle East just writes itself: Suicide bomber hits anti-Israel protest in Iraq

Typically its the suicide bombers attacking Israelis. Failing to be sucessful in that, now that Israel has a security fence and is activly preventing these terorrists from reaching civillians and taking military action against Hamas in Gaza, they atttack their fellow arabs in Iraq no less, while they are protesting and condemning Israel.

One civilian was killed and 16 were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up when he rode his bicycle into the middle of an anti-Israeli demonstration in the city," local police Major Wael Rasheed told AFP.

Talk about your ironic target selection.

When the shoe's off the other foot

Yes we've all seen the video of an Arab reporter cursing President Bush and throwing his shoes at him (and missing from 15 feet away).

Throwing a shoe at someone is considered a grand insult in the Arab world, apparently even sitting with the soles of your shoes facing another can be taken as insulting.

This of course makes this shoe throwing coward with bad aim a hero in the Arab world.

Very typical. The Iraqis were shamed because when the Americans came and liberated them from Saddam Hussein it happened so quickly and easily, - the Arabs couldn't do it themselves.

They certainly wouldn't have thrown shoes at Saddam - they would have been fed feet-first into a plastic shredder by Saddam's minions. Heck they even beat Saddam's statues with shoes once he had been removed from power.

This "brave" reporter's act was an act of weakness and pathetic, not to mention lousy aim.

Now once the real threat of death is gone for making a political statement and Iraqis are free to vote for their own leaders, now this guy decides to be brave.

Sort of like a bully that only picks a fight when he knows his opponent will not fight back.
