Such A Good Thing That You Can't Legally Carry In A Hospital In Michigan

Because such prohibition clearly stops people intent on murder from carrying a firearm in there.

Or really not.

WXYZ Detroit:  Suspect in deadly Henry Ford Hospital shooting now in custody, police say

The Detroit News: Police: Suspect in fatal shooting at Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital in custody

Yep, that prohibition worked so well that the SOB who is the focus of the story was able to waltz right into the hospital, make his way to the basement of the hospital, shoot and kill his ex-wife who worked there, and waltz on out without being intercepted and then drove away not being caught (or possibly he turned himself in - reports differ) until 12 hours after the fact

So, the ex-wife, who had twice applied for PPOs against him after he committed various hostile acts including running her off the road (first application denied, second one granted but not served) was not allowed to be armed.  It would have been illegal for her to carry at the hospital, even as she had an extremely violent ex who had demonstrated time and again that he was a major and quite dangerous threat to her.

We will note that PPO in this case sadly, yet again, stands for Paper, Piece Of.

PPOs are a useful step to document a threat against you and get the police to hopefully take the situation more seriously.  They may even cause some Mope who doesn't get that No means No to leave you alone. Then again, they may not. Against someone clearly bent on harming you, they are of extremely limited effectiveness, as is a no-carry zone.

The prohibition on carrying in a hospital disarmed the victim only in this case, the SOB simply ignored it, along with a host of other applicable laws.

The SOB in question was also a convicted felon with previous convictions for both arson and aggravated stalking and various probation violations.

So legally he was: 1. Not allowed to even possess the firearm that he used to kill his ex-wife; 2. Not allowed to enter the hospital with it; and, of course, 3.  Not allowed to kill her with it.

On top of that, given the impressive lack of security at the hospital, the SOB did not even need a firearm to murder his ex.

No, That Sounds Like A Robbery Attempt Gone Sorta Good

The Detroit News: 15-year-old fatally shot in apparent robbery attempt, Detroit police say

Described as a "robbery gone bad" in the article,  a 15-year-old and an accomplice attempted to rob a man at around 11pm in Detroit .

This didn't work out well, as the male victim of the robbery attempt had a CPL (Concealed Pistol License), was carrying,  and shot the robber, who died 4 blocks away.

Expect reports soon on how the 15-year-old was a "good boy" and "was never in no trouble" as we as how he was imminently "turning his life around" any minute now.

Surprise! Criminals And Their Families Lie.

I mean, who knew that criminals and their families might be less than forthcoming with the truth about an incident?

In this particular scenario, the criminal in question, Rakim Wright, did it wrong.

Fleeing from police after a domestic violence call and  shooting at them while doing so, then shooting himself before he could be arrested, resulting in Rakim assuming room temperature and leaving one less violent domestic abuser in the world.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to whip up a "hands up don't shoot" false narrative, and a shot at winning the ghetto lottery, witnesses and family claimed that "Wright was unarmed and shot by the officers".

The police video of the incident shows otherwise:

Fox 2 Detroit:  Video shows Warren domestic violence suspect fatally shooting self after firing at police during chase

Yes criminals lie, their family lies, and witnesses lie.

We will note this was not Wright's first time of doing things wrong, but it was his last:

Wright also had previous arrests for assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property, and felony weapons charges.

"Stop! Don't Touch!" Is Good Advice For Children - And Some Adults Too

You can't make this kind of stupidity up.

So, a fellow with apparently no safe experience handling firearms picked one up that he found, then almost undoubtedly pulled the trigger, all while pointing it in an unsafe direction.

What could possibly go wrong?  Oh, yeah, that:

The Detroit News: Employee accidentally shoots self, two customers at Eastern Market: Police

An employee at a restaurant in the Eastern Market area mishandled a firearm Wednesday afternoon, injuring himself and two customers with a single shot, Detroit police said.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald called the incident one of the "craziest, silliest things I've seen in quite some time" and added that the employee had "absolutely no business handling a gun."

Just before 1 p.m. a 52-year-old employee inside a restaurant in the 2900 block of Russell was handling a gun which, he told police, he had found in an upstairs area at the business.

He managed to shoot himself in the hand, and  managed to hit two customers, one in the forearm, and one in the wrist with the same shot. The idiot has a better hit percentage than the NYPD.

The Eddie Eagle Program would have been a good start for this fellow. Then again any adult should have had the basic sense to not even mess around with something he had no idea how to handle.

Stupid Criminals: Tailgating Cops While Under A Deportation Order Is No Way To Go Through Life Son

If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.

The Detroit Free Press: Border Patrol arrested a Detroit student on a field trip. He now faces deportation.

So, an illegal in high school at age 18 was driving with three minors in the car and was tailgating a police car.  Not the smartest move, really.

Note the semantics in the article - the illegal is referred to as an "18-year-old Detroit man"  or "Detorit student" rather than as an "18-year-old illegal alien from Colombia" and is referred to only as an "immigrant from Colombia". This follows the linguistic games like that of the Maryland man of MS-13 fame.

So the 18-year-old illegal then gets pulled over, has no driver's license, and then plays the "no speak English" game.

The police call the nearest Spanish-speaking officer to come by and support the stop, who just so happens to be CBP, and they find in no short order that the driver is not just driving illegally, but is in the country illegally.

Apparently as noted in the article some are upset because this is, to them, considered "profiling".

To them, an illegal using tax resources by going to high school here, driving on our roads without even bothering to get a license, which is a misdemeanor in this state, and playing the fool by tailgating cops, is just fine and dandy.

This is not profiling, the fellow was pulled over for a stupid traffic violation and his stupidity then caused things to escalate.

Again, he was found to be driving without a license.  He then failed to speak English so the locals called the closest law enforcement officers available who could speak Spanish, who, most fortuitously, happened to be CBP, and lo and behold, the fellow is indeed an illegal, driving illegally.

Oh, and funnily enough he had already been ordered deported and was still remaining in the country illegally, and driving illegally to boot.

It is most likely the people that are angry that someone who is in this country illegally and driving illegally, while already having an order for deportation are likely the same people who were shouting "No one is above the law" just a few short months ago. No one is above the law - in their view except for illegal aliens.  Apparently, they can become a "Detroit man" but remain exempt from following the law or consequences for doing so, unlike actual Detroit men.

When You Impeach President Trump And Still Lose The Support Of The Progressive Left

Congressman Shri Thanedar's performative impeachment action of President Trump, intended to shore up the progressive wing of support in his Democrat-lock district has failed, bigly.

The Detroit Free Press: Rep. Rashida Tlaib endorses Donavan McKinney in Democratic race against Shri Thanedar

There are two strikes against Thannedar:

1.  He's not pro-terrorist so he lost the "progressive" Islamist and Arab vote; and

2.  He's not Black.  Yes, Democrats are all about race. He's in a solidly Democrat Black district, and the Black Democrat powers-that-be want a Black representative.

Congressman Thanedar needs a T-shirt that reads:

"I filed impeachment articles against Trump, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt."

Shri Thanedar Moves Farther Left To Protect His Flank

Facing a challenge in Detroit due to his not being Black enough,  and for not being crazy progressive enough, Shri Thanedar decides to dabble in leftist performative irrelevance.

Congressman Shri Thanedar Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against President Donald J. Trump for High Crimes and Misdemeanors

The announcement about the impeachment has all the right proggy buzzwords, like tyrannical overreach" even though it doesn't actually identify any real impeachable offenses, basically it is "Orange Man Bad".

Shri is facing at least two primary challengers, both from the farther left end of the spectrum:

From the more left:

The Detroit News:  Adam Hollier running for Congress again, aiming to defeat Shri Thanedar

Hollier is basically running as a challenger yet again on the "Thanedar is not Black and I am so you Black Detroiters should vote for me" angle, with likely the same results as last time.

But, Thanedar is also facing a challenge from the much farther and less sane left:

The Detroit News: Detroit lawmaker Donavan McKinney jumps into race to unseat Shri Thanedar in Congress

[Donovan] McKinney, first elected in 2022, starts out with the backing of the progressive group Justice Democrats that helped elect Reps. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of New York and Rashida Tlaib of Detroit, and the endorsements of 14 current and former  state lawmakers, many of them representing parts of Thanedar’s district that covers a swath of Detroit, the Grosse Pointes and Downriver communities.

So Thanedar, after basically acting as a relatively sane Democrat in Congress, loudly announces he is impeaching President Trump in response to this announcement of a progressive challenger.

Because nothing, absolutely nothing, helps establish your far-left bona fides and gets the progressive left vote like tilting at windmills by filing impeachments against President Trump.

Since the 13th District is a complete Democrat lock, the winner of the Democrat primary is the representative in Congress so Shri is just trying to catch some of the loony left vote early and shore up his vulnerabilities in that area with this forlorn hope of an impeachment filing.

Clearly The Problem Is Not Spending Enough Money on Education

An interesting report out of Illinois.

In over 30 public schools, none, as in not one, zero, not a single kid, is reading at their appropriate grade level.

Note that the per pupil spending ranges in these 30 schools from an outlying low of $8,861 up to an astonishing $56,311, with an average of $21,000 per student among the 30 schools and this is the result you get. That kind of spending is on par with private school tuition at some of the best private schools -with unquestionably far worse results.

Similarly, in all of Maryland Public Schools, half of all the third graders were not reading at grade level.

In Detroit Public Schools, 88% of third graders were under grade level in reading.

It's as if public schools were not there to educate but instead fund the Teacher's and Administrator's Unions to funnel money back to the Democrats in return for more public money for higher salaries and benefits and then rinse and repeat.

Interesting Move By Detroit Mayor Duggan

The Democrat Mayor of Detroit Mike Duggan is making a rather interesting move.

He just announced he will be running for governor.

As an independent candidate.

The Detroit Free Press: Mayor Mike Duggan aims to bridge division in gubernatorial run as independent candidate

From a lifetime as a stalwart Democrat and member of the Detroit Democrat Machine  - albeit as a highly effective and competent member of same, he's now dropping the "D" from his candidacy.

I wonder if he figures the Democratic Party has a rather tarnished image right now and he'd rather run from it than run with it.

Or it may be a matter of DEI Democrat politics, which may mandate a person of color rather than competence make the gubernatorial run.

Duggan has been regarded by many as corrupt but highly effective - which is pretty much the best you can expect or ask for when it comes to a Democrat Mayor of Detroit. Indeed, Duggan is, quite simply, the best mayor Detroit has had in decades.

We'll see if his surprise shift to independent and dropping of the Democrat brand works in his favor.

Everybody Was Kung Fu Firing

You don't get a bulk discount for shooting the bad guy plus bystanders. Spray and pray is a bad tactic with innocents around:

The Detroit Free Press: Detroit cop shot 3 people while responding to summer block party, department reveals

A Detroit police officer responding to a block party shooting this summer shot and injured three people — two described as innocent young women, and a third who allegedly pointed a gun at the officer but was never arrested.

That the third, who had pointed the gun at the officer was never arrested, which raises all sorts of questions.

The officer as it turns out, was responsible for 3 out of the 4 people shot at the scene of the ongoing shooting that she responded to:

Police said in a June news conference that a total of four people were wounded at the block party with an estimated 100 attendees after shots were fired from a vehicle driving by. Nearly 100 shell casings were recovered.

Talk about not improving matters.

The bad guy got one hit, and the officer had three hits for five rounds fired. It also looks like everybody was Kung Fu Firing:

The investigation, he said, was complicated by the chaos of the incident. Eight guns were recovered, including an automatic weapon and an assault rifle. Police believed party attendees may have shot back at the vehicle involved in the violence.

"The officer responded to an active shooter, the officers heard a barrage of rounds being thrown back and forth, so we have to really get granular with what exactly occurred," White said.

93 fired casings were recovered at the scene with 5 from the officer.

In short, this incident was one heckuva mess, and she didn't improve things by tagging two innocents plus the individual that pointed a firearm at her.

An Awful Lot Of That Going Around: Democrat Corruption Edition

Quite a few Democrat Mayors getting indicted and convicted for accepting bribes and other financial malfeasance.

We have the now well-known indictment of New York Mayor Eric Adams for wire fraud, conspiracy and bribery charges.

Locally in Michigan, there is the conviction of the Mayor of Inkster, which took place yesterday, also for bribery, but he was bought for much less in bribes than Adams: The Detroit  News:  Former Inkster mayor pleads guilty in bribery case, U.S. attorney says

Meanwhile the Detroit Riverfront CFO is going to plead guilty after stealing millions from the Riverfront program.  And there's a further Federal case filed against him.

On the federal level while not a mayor,  Senator Bob Menendez  is still awaiting sentencing for his conviction for accepting bribes.

Why You Don't Intervene In Other People's Fights

You may be dealing with more than you can handle.

By all reported accounts, Rashawn Bryant was a very decent fellow who unfortunately intervened in the wrong fight at the wrong time at a tailgate event at the Eastern Market in Detroit.

He apparently saw two men arguing at the tailgate and seemingly about to exchange blows, and then apparently tried to step in to stop or deescalate the fight.  Unfortunately, what he thought was going to be a fist fight turned into a gun fight.

The story was first reported as a shooting where the shooter had pulled a firearm and shot without justification:

The Detroit Free Press: Shooting at Detroit's Eastern Market leaves 1 dead, 1 critically injured.

It now turns out the shooter was determined to have been justified in doing so, as the other person in the fight had escalated the situation and pulled and pointed a firearm at the shooter before the shooter drew his own firearm and shot the attacker:

The Detroit News: Wayne County prosecutor: No charges in Eastern Market shooting

Sadly, that single round traveled through the attacker and also hit Rashawn Bryant as well, killing them both.

It's a tragedy on multiple levels.

We still don't know what sparked the original fight between the two parties, but avoiding fights in the first place is always a very good idea, especially when carrying a firearm. It's also a sad reminder not to try and intervene in other people's fights as you likely don't know what is going on, nor where it can lead.

You Can Take The State Fair Out Of The Hood

But you can't keep the hood-rats out of the State Fair.

Fox2 Detroit: Michigan State Fair shooting: 14-year-old killed, another teen hurt

According to police, two 14-year-old Detroit boys were shot in the parking lot of the Suburban Collection Showplace just before 10 p.m.

Novi police said that there is no further threat to the community, though they are still searching for the suspects. Police believe the person or people responsible knows the victims and it was a targeted attack.

The State Fair was moved out of Detroit to Novi, but less-than-law-abiding Detroiters have followed.

Yet anther reason we can't have nice things, and why it is risky to go to fairs or festivals at night in the environs of Detroit.

Mass Shooting In Detroit Was Unsurprisingly By The Usual Suspects

A mass shooting in Detroit that didn't make much of a wave in the national news and hasn't caught too much attention here aside from some initial calls by the Dems for more gun control.  Why? Well, the reason is unsurprising.

The Detroit Free Press: Detroit police: Illegal block party mass shooting was gang-related, $10K reward offered

Illegal block parties attended by youths with a gang dispute leading to a mass shooting as gang members swap rounds.

The July 7 mass shooting that claimed the lives of two young people and injured 19 others in a hail of bullets during an illegal east-side block party was gang-related, the Detroit Police Department announced Thursday.

At least one of the victims was the intended target at the block party on Rossini Drive near Reno Street, Detroit Police Chief James White said in a video update, but did not elaborate further. Details about the party had been posted on social media prior to the event, drawing over 300 people to the area, some from more than 50 miles away.

The public has demanded answers since the mass shooting, the state's worst since at least 2013.

The answer is pretty simple, really: Tolerating and holding illegal block parties with gang members and "youths" attending and partying into the early hours of the morning results in a likely location with people consuming items that reduce their inhibitions, with many not knowing how to behave to begin with, and rather predictable resultant acts of violence.

Illegal block parties attended by youths with a gang dispute leading to a mass shooting as gang members (most likely with prior felonies) swap rounds isn't a great hill for gun controllers to campaign on.

This is especially so as at least some of the victims were gang members and potentially participants in the firefight, and the whole gathering was illegal to begin with.

Of course, they'll try to use it anyways, but it doesn't have the elements that would really let them dance in the blood.

Anyone who went there certainly violated the Do Not go to Stupid Places, with Stupid People, to do Stupid Things rule.

There's Reasons Areas Are Closed In Detroit During The Fireworks

The Detroit Free Press: Detroiters make the best of fireworks night, but deserve more

The author of the article bemoans that certain areas of Detroit, especially the parks by the Riverwalk, that offer prime viewing,  are closed off for viewing the fireworks for the 4th.  Verily,  he feels the parks should be opened up for viewing.

Of course, the article then states exactly why the parks are closed.  It's  because some people really can't behave and end up shooting other people during the fireworks show at those parks.

In short they may "deserve more" access but they're part of the problem for the closures.

But the Detroit Police Department offers a pretty good reason for it [the closures]:

In 2017, a 46-year-old woman was shot just before the fireworks began, struck by a bullet during a dispute that didn’t involve her near the Spirit of Detroit statue. In 2013, a 37-year old man was killed about a mile from Hart Plaza during the fireworks show. In 2011, a 16-year old girl was shot in the leg as she and her friends walked near Atwater and Beaubien near the Renaissance Center. And in 2004, nine people were shot in Hart Plaza following an argument, according to Free Press archives.

Yes, the parks are closed because the Detroit Police can't be in every park on the 4th, and it's inevitable some hoodrat is going to feel disrespected and pop off some rounds as a matter of course.

It's a bit more of a deterrent, and perhaps less likely to happen if its near where the police actually are out in force.

Meanwhile, another Detroit Free Press Writer notes exactly why the Detroit area can't have nice things:

The Detroit Free Press: Young people fighting at metro Detroit events is ruining safety, summer

Note how he says "Young people" or "teenagers and young adults" and draw your own conclusions.

He doesn't come out and say that it's the hoodrats and yutes from Detroit and other certain environs that are ruining the area festivals, but that's exactly who is causing the problems at these summer events.

Orchard Lake St. Mary's had to close the Annual Polish Fair, of which I have very fond memories from taking my kids there, due to hoodrats coming in and causing fights and mayhem at night, due to the excess costs for security.

We can't have nice things both in Detroit itself and its surrounding environs because some people's kids just can't behave properly, and their community isn't cracking down on them or showing them the appropriate way to behave.

A Truly Tremendous Use of Your Federal Taxpayer Dollars

Yes,  Visit Detroit, via a grant from the Michigan Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus, which itself got the money from Covid relief dollars, is spending a million plus to sponsor a football team to wear "Visit Detroit"  on their jerseys.

The team? Burnley FC in Burnely, England, United Kingdom.

This idea likely came up after the Visit Detroit execs were wondering how to spend their Covid funds they received before the grant ran out, and they had just watched a few episodes of Ted Lasso.

The Detroit Free Press:  Why Visit Detroit became prominent sponsor for English soccer team Burnley FC

Burnley you ask?  it's a thriving metropolis of 73,000 in Lancashire, England. Currently the team is not in the top league having been relegated. Clearly Burnley is a potential source for throngs of English visitors to come visit Detroit.  Maybe visitors will fly Emirates to get here. Nothing against Burnley mind you, it seems like a nice enough place, but for Detroit to burn through Covid funds to sponsor its football team is kinda bonkers.

The Clarets don't have quite the name recognition of say Manchester City or Arsenal, or such, being currently ranked 23rd, but when you've got a million plus you need to burn quickly, needs must and all that, wot?

Sounds like an absolutely great use of over a million dollars in Covid (federal taxpayer or debt sourced) funds.

Forget it Jake, It's Detroit.

The more things change, the more they stay the same:

The Detroit Free Press: Feds: Embezzled millions funded ousted Riverfront Conservancy CFO's lavish lifestyle

Is anyone at this point really surprised about embezzlement by Detroit officials?

Apparently some credulous fools are: Amid $40 million embezzlement probe, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy has work to do

Say it ain’t so, Riverfront Conservancy.

Like the rest of metro Detroit, we've watched with dismay as news of financial malfeasance at the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy trickled out over the last month: A Michigan State Police investigation into missing money, quickly handed off to the FBI. The suspension and firing of the conservancy's CFO. And an auditor's report that estimates the sum of money potentially diverted by that CFO — who may now be missing — at more than $40 million.

The riverfront — the conservancy — must survive this.

But regaining the faith of the community that believed in the riverfront — rebuilding trust with the funders who paid for much of this transformation — must be job one.

Not sure how the Detroit Free Press Editorial Board could write that last bit with a straight face.

It's the same Detroit Corruption Game, only the players have changed.

Democrat Racism In Detroit's 13th District

In Detroit, the 13th District reliably sends a Democrat off to Congress every time.  It's such a safe seat for Democrats that the Democrat primary determines everything, and there's no point for a Republican to run.

The horrible problem is that the 13th Federal District has the wrong race of Democrat in the seat right now.   Shri Thanendar, while a reliable Democrat suffers from a key deficiency - He's not Black.

The Detroit Free Pres:  Detroit learned all the wrong lessons from Shri Thanedar's 2022 win | Opinion

Yep, because Representative Thanendar is Indian and not Black, he's not viewed by the Black Democrats in the city as suitable to represent them.

Racism, much?

Representative Thanendar was elected because in the last primary the Black vote got split among seven Black candidates.  So, the Black powers-that-be in the city decided to be more clever this time and rally around one Black candidate this time to unseat Thanendar.

That decision has now backfired, to much amusement to all but the Black powers-that-be.

The current wailing among the Detroit Democrats is their one great Black hope, Adam Hollier, messed up and was removed from the ballot for hiring a company that screwed him with forged nominating signatures and he completely failed to verify the signatures before turning them in.

This is shades of the forgery tom-foolery that eliminated Craig and other Republicans from the ballot in the last election, which should have been a warning and a clue to the Hollier campaign to check their nominating petitions.

So, the great Black hope turned out to be a dope.

The Black Detroit Democrat Apparatchiks are real mad that yet again, the so far shown to be competent Representative Thanendar is most likely going to be re-elected in a walk, just because he's not Black.

Not because he's been anything other than a reliable Democrat member of the House, but simply just because he's not Black.

So now some Black Detroit Democrat Apparatchiks are calling to change the rules of the game by pushing to shift to ranked choice voting in the primary to try and ensure that a Black Democrat is a lock to be elected in the District in the future instead of putting all their eggs in one forged nominating signature list.

You really can't make this up, and it's rather hilarious to watch the wailing and gnashing of teeth occurring because Thanendar is going to be reelected - Just because he's not Black.

Ah, Detroit Uglification Strikes Again

The nature of Detroit doesn't really change.

For $425,000.00, Detroit got the following sign and a couple others like it installed along Highway 94 in time for the NFL draft - note the difference between the original conception and execution:

A tad less grand than expected.  It's rather underwhelming, and with a coloration that blends into the grass and barely stands out from the background along the highway. In short, score another one for Detroit uglificaiton rather than beautification.

The Detroit News: Gmac Cash on Detroit's new 'Hollywood' sign: 'You can take it back'

One must wonder at the amount of grift and kickbacks that may have involved in the contracting for this sign for the city to spend so much to get so little, and for it to be so ugly as well. Expect any criticism to be that one doesn't understand art, or something similar.

As one anonymous wag on the Internet dryly noted:  "This is what happens when you order your Hollywood-style sign from Temu."

Progressive Advocate: Michigan County Governments Shouldn't Return The Money They Stole Because Reasons

Michigan Counties, most notable Wayne County in which Detroit is sited,  were stealing money from people in foreclosure for not paying their property taxes by selling the homes and keeping not just the property taxes owing but all the equity in the house that resulted from the sale.

The Michigan Supreme Court finally and property put an end to this practice.

So of course, progressives state that making the counties give back their ill-gotten gains to the homeowners is bad.

The Detroit Free Press: This Michigan Supreme Court ruling could help speculators, not homeowners

Much hand-wringing ensues, with the article claiming that many of the homes foreclosed on for lack of property taxes were owned by "speculators"  and not "home owners", as if that is a reason why the government should not disgorge its ill-gotten gains that it got in these sales.

Then the argument is that giving the money back to the owners is too complicated.

Indeed, if anyone but a government did this they would be charged with theft, and they wouldn't get away with failing to pay it back by saying it is too complicated.

An interesting look at the progressive mindset:  Theft is good, so long as it is the government that is doing it.
