Dog Bites Man

Or: You Really Don't Hate The Media Enough.

The murder of Iryna Zarutska occurred on August 22 and its been only on mainly conservative sites where it has been getting coverage as the video of the murder was leaked until just now.

The dam finally broke today and a slew of mainstream sites are finally covering it weeks later (note the datestamps of times of the stories in the Google search - mainly coming out today and indeed within hours before this post) with much of the coverage being about the accusation that the lack of coverage has been  politicized by MAGA types (yes, really) as the story spread while leftist and mainstream media sources blithely failed to cover it at all.

So, why did the media not cover a story of a mentally-ill man killing an innocent woman?

Well, of course there's the racial angle, Black man killing White female is double-plus-ungood to mention, especially as there's no domestic violence angle to play here where you can blame western patriarchal family structures.

After all, Black on White violence is indeed Dog-Bites-Man to the mainstream media and statistically is the norm compared to White on Black violence.

It's a further issue not worthy of coverage as it goes directly against the left's soft on crime initiatives including no cash bail and releasing people on the happy belief criminals and mentally ill criminals at that, will show up in court on their own after being charged with violent crimes. he had been arrested and released 13 14 times prior to the murder, with the most recent release just before it took place with zero bail to reappear on his latest charge.

This also took place on mass transit in a Democrat controlled city.  Democrats love their mass transit and prefer to gloss over the crime that occurs on it.  And, it's in a Democrat city with soft on crime policies - so much so that the mayor in talking about the crime was more concerned and gave more time to the fact that the perpetrator had been homeless and the bromides of root causes than the fate of the victim.

On top of that, mentally ill people attacking innocents in public is commonplace,  par for the course, and not to be remarked upon by the media progressives. After all, they have pushed for deinstitutionalization and hold the charming belief that the mentally ill just see the world differently from the rest of us.

Indeed, they do.

Quite simply, unless the mentally ill person uses a gun and shoots up a school or a crowd so the media and progressives can use it to promote gun bans, they're simply not interested.

So, this story had all the reasons why the mainstream media didn't want to touch it with a 10-foot pole until they were forced to do so:

An attractive and wholly innocent white victim, who was a refugee no less; a Black perpetrator who was mentally ill and had a violent criminal record a mile long who was let out to roam free again and again until he finally killed someone; and it taking place on public transit.

No wonder the media didn't want to talk about it until they were forced to do so.

Such A Good Thing That You Can't Legally Carry In A Hospital In Michigan

Because such prohibition clearly stops people intent on murder from carrying a firearm in there.

Or really not.

WXYZ Detroit:  Suspect in deadly Henry Ford Hospital shooting now in custody, police say

The Detroit News: Police: Suspect in fatal shooting at Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital in custody

Yep, that prohibition worked so well that the SOB who is the focus of the story was able to waltz right into the hospital, make his way to the basement of the hospital, shoot and kill his ex-wife who worked there, and waltz on out without being intercepted and then drove away not being caught (or possibly he turned himself in - reports differ) until 12 hours after the fact

So, the ex-wife, who had twice applied for PPOs against him after he committed various hostile acts including running her off the road (first application denied, second one granted but not served) was not allowed to be armed.  It would have been illegal for her to carry at the hospital, even as she had an extremely violent ex who had demonstrated time and again that he was a major and quite dangerous threat to her.

We will note that PPO in this case sadly, yet again, stands for Paper, Piece Of.

PPOs are a useful step to document a threat against you and get the police to hopefully take the situation more seriously.  They may even cause some Mope who doesn't get that No means No to leave you alone. Then again, they may not. Against someone clearly bent on harming you, they are of extremely limited effectiveness, as is a no-carry zone.

The prohibition on carrying in a hospital disarmed the victim only in this case, the SOB simply ignored it, along with a host of other applicable laws.

The SOB in question was also a convicted felon with previous convictions for both arson and aggravated stalking and various probation violations.

So legally he was: 1. Not allowed to even possess the firearm that he used to kill his ex-wife; 2. Not allowed to enter the hospital with it; and, of course, 3.  Not allowed to kill her with it.

On top of that, given the impressive lack of security at the hospital, the SOB did not even need a firearm to murder his ex.

Yet Another Reason To Appreciate Being American

You can actually defend yourself if attacked.

Unlike say, Australia, where you can be criminally charged for pepper-spraying someone who is in the act of breaking into your home.

Not The Bee:  Australian man criminally charged for stopping home invader with pepper spray

 Yes, really.

Compare to a similar situation in the US but with a much happier ending for the victim in the home, in Illinois of all places:

Daily Mail: Mom hid her baby in closet then shot and killed burglar who broke into her home in peaceful suburb late at night

The Anglosphere seems to be swiftly shrinking away from what it once was.

A Not So Peaceful Hood, That

An event entitled "Peace in The Hood" was held in Boynton Beach, Florida.

So of course this event promoting peace was disrupted by a shooting with 4 victims and others injured in the ensuing panic.

25WPBF: Fourth suspect arrested in 'Peace in the Hood' shooting

Hardly unexpected event, that.

Useful Advice For Stupid Criminals: Don't Point A Firearm At A Cop

It tends to lead to a bad outcome, especially if you are driving on a suspended license, are pulled over and then flee the traffic stop, and have outstanding warrants, and on top of that pull out a gun while running away anf then turn back towards the cops gun in hand.

The Detroit News: No charges for Shelby Twp. cop who fatally shot Troy man as bodycam video released

“Had (Jackson) thrown his gun on the grass and kept running, everything changes,” Tignanelli added. “As soon as (Jackson) made a slight turn toward the officer, that’s when it happened. You can’t wait for the muzzle flash.”
Bodycam footage certainly helped show what happened.  Thomas Antonio Jackson decided to not just resist arrest, but pull a firearm on a police officer while doing so and start turning towards him.  A very bad decision, that.

This sort of thing happens when you teach people there are no consequences from resisting arrest cause your life matters and such:

[Macomb County prosecutor] Lucido said he's seen an "exponential rise" in people fleeing from police. "Every day, I'm dealing with this," he said.

If Black Lives really Mattered, those protesting and claiming they support BLM could certainly save a lot of Black Lives by spending less time protesting police and more time teaching people:

1. Not to run from police;

2. Not to resist arrest; and

3. Most especially, not to point a firearm at police.

No, That Sounds Like A Robbery Attempt Gone Sorta Good

The Detroit News: 15-year-old fatally shot in apparent robbery attempt, Detroit police say

Described as a "robbery gone bad" in the article,  a 15-year-old and an accomplice attempted to rob a man at around 11pm in Detroit .

This didn't work out well, as the male victim of the robbery attempt had a CPL (Concealed Pistol License), was carrying,  and shot the robber, who died 4 blocks away.

Expect reports soon on how the 15-year-old was a "good boy" and "was never in no trouble" as we as how he was imminently "turning his life around" any minute now.

Stupid Criminals: Location Can Be Everything

So our stupid criminal of the day is deservedly heading for the Sex Offender Registry (and sadly not the wood-chipper).

The Detroit News: Man accused of exposing himself at Rochester Hills businesses arrested

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office had been searching for the 32-year-old suspect since he allegedly exposed himself several times to a group of pre-teenage girls outside of two businesses on June 29.

. . .

"Repeatedly targeting young girls and exposing oneself is not only vile — it’s a serious crime," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement.

Now had he, instead of doing this outside the business, done the following two easy steps, he likely would have gotten away with it.  All he had to do was:

1. Declare himself to be a woman; and

2. Gone into a girl's locker room or washroom, and he likely would have gotten away with waving his junk to all and sundry within.

Indeed, progressives likely would have feted him for his stunning and brave actions, not taken any action against him, and bullied or punished any who complained.

Funny, that.

Copycat Knifings

The stabbing of 11 people at the Walmart in Traverse City by a mentally ill man, made notable by the presence of an armed citizen who was there to stop the attack is now drawing copycats.

The Detroit News: Man arrested in stabbing at a Walmart in Kent County

A 29-year-old man is accused of stabbing another person last week inside a Walmart in Kent County, officials said.

Again, bystanders commendably intervened to stop the attack - which si a rather positive copycat effect.

The copycat effect on the criminal side is unfortunately quite real.

So is the realization, finally, that per the Detroit News's quoted experts:  Michigan's mental health system not set up to help severely ill, experts say

Yep, I've been saying that on this blog for a long time now.

And Another Mentally Ill Killer - This Time In New York City

So the NYC idiot managed to stroll on the street while carrying an AR-15 type firearm - which is a neat trick, really.

Apparently per, news reports, he blamed the NFL, even though he never played for the NFL, for CTE, a head injury that is not even diagnosed while you are alive. So yep, he had delusions.  Sadly those delusions led him to kill innocents.

In short he was rather non compos in his mentis.

He then entered the building where the NFL is headquartered and killed some people, including a police officer, and then took the wrong elevators and shot a few people on the top floor before killing himself.

Yet again, someone mentally ill and "on the radar" doesn't get the treatment they need and are left free to roam and kill the innocent.

Meanwhile, CNN seems to also be suffering from mental problems as they are having a great deal of difficulty identifying and describing things accurately:

Walmart Stabber Mentally Ill - How He Was Stopped Didn't Fit The Media Narrative

While not featured, and  the media here is at least admitting that it was a man with a pistol that helped stop the mentally-ill stabber that attacked 11 people in a Walmart in Taraverse City.

The Detroit Free Press: Sheriff: Bystanders helped stop Michigan Walmart stabbing suspect from hurting more people

It only took until the sixth paragraph for the Detroit Free Press to note that of the men surrounding the stabber and stopping him there was:

one who appears to be holding a handgu

Still, at least that's something.

The Detroit News also took the same six paragraphs to get to that rather important fact, but they were at least a bit more definitive about it:

The Detroit News: Sheriff: Traverse City Walmart stabbings started near checkout lanes

About five minutes later, the man was surrounded by shoppers in the parking lot, including one who was holding a gun.

Both the Detroit Free Press and the  Detroit News managed to fail to mention that the hero with the gun who stopped the stabber happened to be Black - because that really wouldn't have fit the narrative.

Nor did they so much as mention that this hero was a law-abiding Black man who had a concealed carry permit and was legally carrying at the time.

Hero?  Yes, he and the others certainly are heroes by taking action then and there to stop the attack and subdue the attacker - long before the police arrived.

And the stabber, to no one's surprise has a long history of both criminal convictions (with minimal sentences) and of mental illness.

The Detroit Free Press: Traverse City Walmart stabbing suspect had history of mental health and legal troubles

We need to treat mental illness a lot more seriously in this country, and actually institutionalize those who are a danger to themselves and others, rather than let them wander free and assault others at will.

Surprise! Criminals And Their Families Lie.

I mean, who knew that criminals and their families might be less than forthcoming with the truth about an incident?

In this particular scenario, the criminal in question, Rakim Wright, did it wrong.

Fleeing from police after a domestic violence call and  shooting at them while doing so, then shooting himself before he could be arrested, resulting in Rakim assuming room temperature and leaving one less violent domestic abuser in the world.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to whip up a "hands up don't shoot" false narrative, and a shot at winning the ghetto lottery, witnesses and family claimed that "Wright was unarmed and shot by the officers".

The police video of the incident shows otherwise:

Fox 2 Detroit:  Video shows Warren domestic violence suspect fatally shooting self after firing at police during chase

Yes criminals lie, their family lies, and witnesses lie.

We will note this was not Wright's first time of doing things wrong, but it was his last:

Wright also had previous arrests for assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property, and felony weapons charges.

Stupid Criminals: You Might Say He Got Popped

Ne'er do well Quinton Marquise Allen from Detroit decided to rob a bank in Saginaw, and take a hostage while doing so.

The Michigan State Police then sent a drone over with a bottle of Faygo Red Pop.

When Quinton decided to Pop Up to get at the refreshing beverage, the MSP sniper Popped Off, and the hostage situation was fully and finally resolved, as was Quinton.

FOX10 News: Police used Faygo soda to lure suspect from bank before shooting him during hostage standoff

Faygo gets a couple new advertising slogans from this one:

"Faygo: The pop of choice of the MSP!"

and

"Faygo: Pop so good, you'd die for it."

Compare and Contrast - Ages and Stages

The [Democrat-dominated] Michigan Supreme Court has now ruled that 19 and 20 year olds murderers cannot be sentenced to life without parole for their crimes.  This is an increase from the prior 18 and under ruling that barred life without parole for those 18 and under.

MiLive: No mandatory life sentences for 19- and 20-year-olds, Michigan Supreme Court rules

600 (yes, six hundred) 19-20 year old murderers in Michigan will now need to be re-sentenced.

The ruling is based on the idea that even 19-20 year old's brains are not fully developed and thus its unfair to impose a life sentence for a decision they made then:

The central arguments for exempting juveniles and young adults from mandatory life sentences has been that their brains are simply less developed, their character less fixed and their control over their environments more limited than is true for adult offenders.

“Children have a ‘lack of maturity and an underdeveloped sense of responsibility,’ leading to recklessness, impulsivity, and heedless risk-taking,” the United States Supreme Court wrote in 2012 in Miller v. Alabama, ruling that sentencing juveniles to life without parole constituted cruel and unusual punishment.

Yet, also in Michigan, a person with an brain that is, verily as determined by law, simply less developed can get "gender affirming care"  and irreversibly change their bodies at a far younger age than that.

The Detroit News:  Trans kids' treatment can start younger, new guidelines say

With puberty blockers permitted to be taken in Michigan at as young as 8 years of age, and hormone treatments at 14, not to mention surgery - far, far below the "recklessness, impulsivity, and heedless risk-taking" of a 19-20 year old.

But, it's totes ok to impose a life sentence on children with irreversible changes to their bodies.

The lack of consistency is rather impressive.

Catching And Deporting Predators From Michigan

The Detroit News: 2 accused of trying to meet girl for sex, being undocumented immigrants arrested in Livingston Co.

First things first:  Kudos to Bikers Against Predators for their work, including this latest excellent job in catching two alien scumbags trying to take advantage of underage girls.

These two illegals possibly arrived in to Michigan via one of Biden's many illegal alien flights to our state,  or simply perambulated along to end up in Livingston county. These two illegals instead of "doing jobs Amwericans won;t do" as the bromide goes, instead decided to do some highly inappropriate conduct with underage girls.

Thanks to Bikers Against Predators, they got caught.

Second, it's high time to quite using the term "undocumented immigrants" and restore the accurate and legal term illegal aliens as the proper description for those whom illegally cross our borders.

While we have yet to call drug dealers undocumented pharmacists, nor shoplifters undocumented purchasers, one can expect the progressives to do so eventually.

Let's quit using language designed to mislead and not reflect reality.

Happy Compost Your Girlfriend Day

It should not need to be said, but to be clear, this blog does not condone nor advocate composting your romantic interest.

If it's reached the point where it is clearly absolutely not working out, don't try to bury your problems, just say goodbye, get on with your life, and handle it like a rational adult.

The co-founder of Earth Day didn't quite figure that part out.

NBC News: Earth Day co-founder killed, composted girlfriend - NBC News

Ira Einhorn was on stage hosting the first Earth Day event at the Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970. Seven years later, police raided his closet and found the "composted" body of his ex-girlfriend inside a trunk.

That's taking recycling way too far, and one would think in this day and age having that on your record would have you disowned by the Left rather than being celebrated.

However, his tactic of extorting corporations to pay his organization and in return be free from harassment has been copied and adopted as a model shakedown tactic by multiple leftist groups over time.

Ira Einhorn died in a US prison in April 2020, after having fled the country after the murder to Sweden and then France before being extradited back to the USA in 2001.

There's no word on whether his remains were composted after his demise, but it would have been appropriate.

When Prosecuting Someone For Mortgage Fraud

It's generally best not to be doing it yourself.

NY AG Letitia James (D), who was elected on the promise of "Getting Trump" and who prosecuted President Trump for alleged mortgage fraud for allegedly overstating the value of his properties in securing a loan (which was paid back in full), now faces prosecution for mortgage fraud in connection with a house she bought in Virginia.

CBS News: New York Attorney General Letitia James accused of possible mortgage fraud

New York Attorney General Letitia James has been referred for federal criminal prosecution for alleged mortgage fraud related to a Virginia home and a New York property.

William Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), wrote a letter obtained by CBS News New York to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi alleging that James "has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms."
Details of the allegations

Pulte alleges James may have falsified her residence status at a home in Norfolk, Virginia, to get a better mortgage rate.

According to Pulte, in 2023 James granted Shamice Thompson-Hairston power of attorney to make the Norfolk property, purchased in August of that year, her "principal residence," despite James actually living and serving as attorney general in New York at the time.

But wait, there's more:

Pulte also alleges James bought a five-family property in Brooklyn in 2001 with a loan that is only available for homes with four units or less.

"Spanning the last two decades, Ms. James has consistently misrepresented the same property as only having four units in both building permit applications and numerous mortgage documents and applications," Pulte wrote. "It appears that Ms. James may have listed the Brooklyn, NY property as four units instead of five units in order to meet the conforming loan requirements, and thus receive better interest rates."

But wait, there's even more!:

It's also alleged James and her father signed mortgage documents in 1983 stating they were husband and wife.

"Ms. James, for both properties listed above, appears to have falsified records in order to meet certain lending requirements and receive favorable loan terms," Pulte concluded, adding that it could lead to charges such as wire fraud, mail fraud and bank fraud, along with making false statement to a financial institution.

Talk about keeping the fraud in the family.

Not a good look when you made your bones prosecuting someone who you allege did something you yourself have done, apparently on multiple occasions.

Worse for Ms. James, she's allegedly  committed federal crimes with her acts of mortgage fraud, and she defrauded federal government lenders as well,  so she can't count of the New York state judiciary to help her out.

Bring popcorn, this should get good.

PA Arsonist Is A Mentally-Deranged Leftist

So, a bit of an updated for those who leapt to conclusions and claimed the scum who broke in and set fire to Governor's Shapiro's mansion was "MAGA".

Well, as it turns out, not so much.

Instead, he's apparently the run-of-the-mill, mentally ill, Leftist.

A Pro-Palestinian, run-of-the-mill, mentally ill, Leftist:

NBC: Arson suspect angry with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro over Palestinian stance, search warrants say

The man accused of setting fire to Pennsylvania's executive mansion early Sunday dialed 911 after the attack and suggested he was upset by Gov. Josh Shapiro's position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to newly released search warrants.

       . . .

But Balmer's mother said she was concerned about his mental health in recent days, and told The Associated Press on Monday that he was not taking his medication and that "nobody would help" when she called authorities last week.

Yep, and a further piece of evidence, in addition to his joining the parade of a long list of leftists going forth and burning things they disagree with,  helps point to his progressive pedigree:

As noted in the Daily Wire: Arsonist Arrested For Attack On Josh Shapiro Hated Israel, 911 Call Reveals

Balmer’s storage unit in Swatara Township reportedly had stickers of South American Marxist revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara inside a toolbox.

I daresay damn few MAGA types have Che Guevara stickers. Che is after all, the darling of the progressive left, and certainly not the right.

Yeah, so those who jumped to conclusions and proclaimed this was a "MAGA"  attack may need to do a correction.

In short, burning other's peoples things is wrong. Burning other people's houses while they are in them is wrong.  Leftists apparently have forgotten this lesson yet again.

Scammers Take Their Toll

Gotten texts saying you owe a toll?  It's almost 100% going to be a scam. I've gotten quite a few such texts, allegedly from states that I have never even driven through.  Yes, not only is the cake a lie, but the text is a scam.

Especially so if they claim you owe for a toll in Michigan.

That's because Michigan doesn't have any toll roads.  As in none, zero, nada.

The Detroit News: Scammers run toll scheme with imposter government website, MDOT says

Government agencies are not going to send you a text saying you owe a toll.

Nor do governments want payments in gift cards, crypto, or wire transfers.

Your best course of action is to not click on any links in the text, and immediately delete the message and mark it as junk when you do so.

Update:  Talk about timing! A few hours after I posted this I got the following text:

Yes, it is very, very fake.

The Revolving Door Stabbing Plan

More revolving door criminal justice in Michigan, this time out of Washtenaw County:

MILive: Man sentenced to year in jail, 2 years probation for slashing man’s neck

A man who pleaded guilty to slicing a man’s neck in downtown Ann Arbor will spend roughly 90 days in jail.

Kimani Angelo Hamilton, 30, was sentenced to one year in jail and two years of probation after he pleaded guilty to two counts each of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault less than murder, according to court records.

And this isn't his first jaunt into stabbing and attempted stabbing.

The other charges stem from a second aggravated assault around 1 p.m. May 26 near South Fourth Avenue and East Huron Street, Page said.

He pleaded guilty Jan. 28.

Hamilton has previously been convicted of a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery after he pulled a knife on a 35-year-old man while inside The Blind Pig, 208 South First St. in November in Ann Arbor. [for which he got all of 93 days in jail]

So he'll now be out in 90 days after slashing someone in the neck.  Any bets on how long it will be until his next stabbing will take place?

Better Late Than Never Doesn't Quite Apply

It's good that the Oakland County prosecutor is going after a murderer and seeking enhanced penalties for a the fact that the scumbag has a very long rap sheet of violent felonies and use of firearms in crime.

The Detroit News: Tougher penalty sought for man accused in Oxford Christmas Eve shooting

In December, after driving his car into a ditch, the felon in question went on a killing spree, shooting motorists who had stopped to assist him after his crash.

His list of crimes is rather extensive, the punishments for them not so much.

The kicker is that had the law been fully enforced on this criminal, he would still have been in jail and unable to kill anyone:

While in prison, Webb was also charged in 2019 with possessing weapons as a prisoner. He pleaded guilty in 2020. The conviction could have added another five years to his sentence, but the time was served concurrently with his previous sentence, leading to his July discharge from prison.

In short, he was able to do a crime, while in prison no less for a slew of serious felonies, effectively for no penalty at all, and get out to commit multiple murders when he should have been in prison for that crime.

It's nice that the prosecutor is now declaring this is a case oif double secret probation and treating him as a "super habitual offender" - it's just a pity that he wasn't effectively punished and interdicted before he went off and shot a bunch of people.
