Apparently, "Police Should Ignore ARMED Criminals" Is A Real Leftist Take

Yep, apparently in order to stop Black criminals from being shot, which makes progressives sad, there's a serious advocacy effort that police should not stop people who appear to be illegally armed in Detroit.

The Detroit Free Press: Stopped for a curfew violation, shot by police: When nonviolent stops spiral in Detroit

Yes, they're serious about this:

Futterman, the Chicago professor, questioned whether officers should chase for suspected guns, particularly when they do not see one. He helped that city craft one of the nation’s most restrictive foot chase policies after back-to-back March 2021 fatal police shootings involving foot pursuits over minor issues.

How's crime been doing in Chicago since those policies ignoring crime and restricting chasing criminals have been implemented?  Oh, not so good.

Let's examine some of these chases described on the article:

Detroit police were drawn to Walter Peete by his hand in his pocket.

The 29-year-old was leaving the corner store in February 2018 after picking up a deck of cards to entertain two young cousins who’d grown bored playing Uno. For the short walk, Peete had taken an unloaded gun he was not legally allowed to have. He’d later say it was because the neighborhood was dangerous — someone had once pulled a gun on him there and his sister had been robbed.

Describing Peete’s hidden hand as gripped in a way that suggested he had an illegal gun, special operations officers driving by approached him. When Peete ran, they gave chase.

The pursuit ended with an officer shooting Peete 13 times, leaving him laying bloody in his driveway with three generations of family in the house.

Well, the article fails to mention why poor little Peete (who ain't little per the pictures) can't legally have a firearm. Maybe, just maybe, it was because he was on parole for a felony conviction for drugs. I thought we wanted to keep guns out of the hands of criminals?

The article goes on:

Why chase Rayshawn Walden?

Well, if you have to ask that question as a reporter when the following facts are in the very same article immediately following the question posed, I daresay you're a special kind of stupid:

It was a split-second decision made by a DPD officer who saw him standing at a gas station in the summer of 2020. Officer Bailey Rumschlag said his pursuit was touched off by a bulge on Walden’s hip indicating he had a weapon. As they ran, Rumschlag said Walden began turning on him with the gun in hand, prompting the officer to shoot.

Yep, when after fleeing from police, you then turn towards a police officer with a gun in your hand, getting shot is highly likely.

Let's sum up the article -  Police are looking for criminals illegally carrying guns. If you're illegally carrying a gun,  making sudden moves with the illegal gun while being stopped by a police officer leads to you likely being shot.  The pro-criminal element in Detroit and elsewhere is upset by this.

Again, if you want to truly save Black Lives, teach Black criminals not to resist arrest, including that vital bit of information that apparently everyone  else but them already knows:

If you pull a gun or you point a gun at a police officer while resisting arrest you are probably going to get shot.

So much for the Left being all about getting "guns off the street".

Useful Advice For Stupid Criminals: Don't Point A Firearm At A Cop

It tends to lead to a bad outcome, especially if you are driving on a suspended license, are pulled over and then flee the traffic stop, and have outstanding warrants, and on top of that pull out a gun while running away anf then turn back towards the cops gun in hand.

The Detroit News: No charges for Shelby Twp. cop who fatally shot Troy man as bodycam video released

“Had (Jackson) thrown his gun on the grass and kept running, everything changes,” Tignanelli added. “As soon as (Jackson) made a slight turn toward the officer, that’s when it happened. You can’t wait for the muzzle flash.”
Bodycam footage certainly helped show what happened.  Thomas Antonio Jackson decided to not just resist arrest, but pull a firearm on a police officer while doing so and start turning towards him.  A very bad decision, that.

This sort of thing happens when you teach people there are no consequences from resisting arrest cause your life matters and such:

[Macomb County prosecutor] Lucido said he's seen an "exponential rise" in people fleeing from police. "Every day, I'm dealing with this," he said.

If Black Lives really Mattered, those protesting and claiming they support BLM could certainly save a lot of Black Lives by spending less time protesting police and more time teaching people:

1. Not to run from police;

2. Not to resist arrest; and

3. Most especially, not to point a firearm at police.

Kent County Prosecutor Throws Cop To The Mob

Instead of backing the officer, Christopher Schurr, who was facing a deadly threat from the rather super-drunk and feloniously disorderly Patrick Lyoya after Lyoya was pulled over driving a car with non-matching tags, on probation, and on a revoked license with a BAC of .28 and then he decided to resist arrest and fight the officer.

The Kent County prosecutor caved to the demands of BLM to charge the officer after he was attacked by Lyoya and Lyoya had grabbed his Taser.

With second degree murder.

The Detroit Free Press: Christopher Schurr charged with second-degree murder in shooting of Patrick Lyoya

This practice of charging officers (and in this case an officer with an unblemished record) with crimes when the designated minority is harmed while resisting arrest is going to make officers far less eager to pull over suspicious vehicles, and enforce the law and arrest offenders.

Expect crime to increase as officers decide it is simply no longer worth trying to arrest offenders. Combined with soft on crime prosecutors not following through with charges on offenders and going for no cash bail, and it's a perfect recipe for rising crime rates.

Bet on it.

No Wonder Lyoya Ran: Drunk, Driving On A Revoked License, And With Open Warrants

The Detroit News: Lyoya super drunk under law when pulled over in fatal traffic stop, exam finds

Meanwhile BLM and progressives are saying the officer should have just let him run away instead of chasing him.

The blood-alcohol level of the man shot and killed by a Grand Rapids police officer last month was more than three times the legal limit, according to a Kent County Medical Examiner's autopsy and toxicology report released Monday to The Detroit News under a public records request.

Lyoya's blood ethanol was 290 mg/dL, according to the report. That converts to a 0.29 BAC, more than three times Michigan's limit of 0.08 and higher than 0.17, which the state classifies as super drunk.

Well, that among many other factors certainly explains why he decided to run and then fought the officer - driving Super-Drunk, on a revoked license, on probation, and with an outstanding warrant for his arrest is no way to go through life.

Apparently BLM would have much preferred if he got a free pass to drive drunk and then went off and killed someone rather than have an officer try and arrest a choirboy multiple-offense criminal.

The Media Finally Reports (A Little Bit) On Lyoya's Extensive Criminal Record

The media is finally reporting some of the more salient details of Lyoya's criminal history, after weeks of depicting him as such a good boy who was just a poor refugee form the Congo.

The media is only starting to report this after they have reported far more biographical details about the officer who justifiably shot Lyoya - everything about the officer from the high school he attended forward.

The media is now finally getting around to reporting that:

Lyoya, since coming to Michigan from Congo in 2014, was convicted twice of assaulting women and had an arrest warrant for domestic violence. During the April 4 incident, he appeared to wrestle with the officer for control of his stun gun.

Hurts the choirboy image a tad, now doesn't it?

Unsurprisingly, this information is buried deep in an article in the Detroit News titled: Police union defends Grand Rapids cop who fatally shot Lyoya -- every other article still keeps up the dindu nothin' image.  Funny, that.

The media is also still not reporting that he was driving at the time on a revoked license for a DUI, nor his DUI record, nor that he was on probation at the time he was pulled over in a car with a non-marching license plate.  Interesting how they don't report that as it would certainly explain why he decided to resist arrest.

An Interesting Unmentioned Fact About Patrick Lyoya

While BLM and his family is trying to paint him as a dindu nothin, an interesting fact, for some reason completely unreported by both the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press has been found.

At the time he was pulled over, Patrick Lyoya was on probation for Operating While Intoxicated.

That certainly explains the revoked license our Democrat Secretary of State tried to censor, as well as why he ran form the officer and resisted arrest as by driving a car (potentially stolen as it had mismatching license plates) while on probation with a revoked license he was violating his probation in all sorts of ways.

Shame he was on probation instead of in jail, he would have been alive if he wasn't free to assault a police officer.

A rather important fact that gives context to the story, yes?   Rather easy to find, and rather peculiar that it has not been remarked upon by the press.

Now why would that not be reported in the stories regarding the events?

Michigan Secretary of State Goes Full-On Woke - Tries To Censor Info To Protect A Criminal

It's an election year, and there was an opportunity, after already messing with the rules and procedures of the 2020 election,  for our Democrat Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to burnish her BLM progressive credentials.

The death of Patrick Lyoya while resisting arrest and trying to taser a police officer gave her a great opportunity to do so.

She announced the Secretary of State would no longer release the driving records of those who were "victims of violence" and she placed Lyoya in that category.

In leftie world, that Orwellian double speak works for them.

Driving records are normally available to the public and the media.  For example, I often need to retrieve them for my clients for various issues.

Clearly there is indeed information on Loyo's record that make him look bad and perhaps help explain why he resisted arrest and fought with the officer - like 3 separate stolen vehicle misdemeanors (amazingly it took a socialist website to report this information!)- a pity he got slaps on the wrist for all of them, for if he had been in jail maybe he wouldn't have been out and about and able to resist arrest and attack a cop and thus would be alive today.

Details of those crimes might provide context as to how he was driving a vehicle with non-matching plates at the time he was pulled over, but that might not paint him as an innocent victim of police brutality as the progressives and media are trying to depict him, now would it?

So what does she do?

She announces the Secretary of State will censor and not release information claiming he was a "victim of violence".

She and the department made a public statement released on their website condemning his death and they wouldn;t release his record because "as being included as an irrelevant detail that wrongly suggests he is culpable for being shot ".

You can't make this up.

The Detroit Free Press: State moves to block release of certain driver records, then reverses itself  - Note we learn in this article, only in passing, that the information the Secretary of State is trying to suppress is that Lyoya's license was revoked - information whcih may well explain his refusal to provide it and his attempt to flee and resist arrest.

The Detroit News:  Secretary of State Benson walks back statement on limiting access to driver records

Even the more progressive news agencies got up in arms about this censorship, considering they realized it could be applied to lots more situations.

The Detroit News: Editorial: Benson wrong to withhold shooting victim's vehicle and driving records

After the pushback she announced they would continue to release records.

This is what happens when you let progressives occupy and politicize the Secretary of State position.   Truth takes a backseat to the narrative, and they progressives will blatantly censor the truth to push their agenda.

Perhaps The Most Racist Op-Ed You'll Read Today

It's waiting for you at the Detroit Free Press:

Opinion: I hesitated to call police when white woman needed my help

The title really sets the stage doesn't it? As you might guess, the op-ed writer is not-White. You can go read the whole emotive thing, but here's the highlights:

He gets a knock on his door and a Black male is helping a White lady clearly in distress and lacking mental capacity.

He hesitates because he's Black and then the virtue signalling and victimhood begins, but the two guys do decide to call the police for assistance.

So then the police arrive:

While we wait, the jogger points out that it's not dark yet. That's a good             thing, he says. Daylight is on our side. . . .

two uniformed officers — a young Black female and a male of Arab descent — emerge from the police car. She’s smiling, and he’s not giving off any threatening vibes.

Whew! (Thanks, Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren, for your diverse department.)

He's thankful they're not white.  That's not racist at all, is it?

The police arrived and no one got hurt and the lady in need of help was helped.  Funny how that works right?  That's actually exactly how it works in over 99.999% of the time in such interactions with police.

But it gets better:

I’m happy we were there to help, and relieved that Linda is headed back to her worried husband. But I'm also saddened at what all these police shootings have done to us.

The jogger and I both recognized Linda's vulnerability, but as Black men, our first instinct was to protect ourselves. We were eager to help, but we understood that we might be vulnerable, too. We didn't want anybody to die.

We gotta fix this.

Well he could fix this by working on his self-perspective and understand that he's been lied to. He could work on it by understanding that in fact, if he's not committing a crime and not resisting arrest, nor attacking police, his chance of dying at police hands is pretty damn minuscule and indeed is just about zero.

In fact, the chance of anyone dying by a Police shooting is again rather impressively low, and almost zero,  unless you're doing something that justifies their using deadly force - and then the odds start to tick up from zero accordingly.

He could also work to fix it by teaching Black men to stop committing crimes and then forcibly resisting arrest, and the number of police shootings of said Black male criminals will also decline dramatically.

But, that would require far too much self-reflection, and not nearly the victim hood and virtue signalling that he's selling, she he can't do that.

A Reasonable Sentence In The Daunte Wright Case

The Detroit News: Kim Potter sentenced to 2 years in Daunte Wright’s death

While officer Kim Potter may have even been legally justified to shoot Daunte Wright at the time as his moving the car while struggling with officers could have amounted to a deadly threat, the facts showed she didn't intends to do so and instead under the pressure of the moment did so by mistake.

In short the jury found her, in a manner much as would happen (but with some extra politics weighing against her) if any other person shot someone by accident and they died, guilty of manslaughter.

The two year sentence the judge handed down is fair given the circumstances and guilty verdict.

Both Daunte Wright's mom and his baby momma were not too happy with it, blaming "white tears" for the reduced verdict and bemoaning that:

“My son shouldn’t have to wear a ‘rest in peace’ shirt of his dad,” Whitaker said.

Too bad that the mom didn't teach her son, and his baby momma didn't teach her baby daddy, not to resist arrest nor try to flee police.

Had they had done and had he not resisted arrest and tried to flee and possibly run over an officer,  the entire event would not have occurred. The entire incident, and the tragic mistaken on Potter's part was caused by his decision to do so.

When You Get What You Want Good And Hard

Some progressives are slowly figuring out that when you defund the police and decide not to prosecute crime, crime for some reason, totally unknown to these folks, rises.

The Detroit News: 'A dangerous time': Portland, Oregon, sees record homicides

“People should be leery because this is a dangerous time,” said Lionel Irving Jr., a lifelong Portland resident and a gang outreach worker.

Portland’s police department is struggling to keep up amid an acute staffing shortage and budget cuts. Now, Oregon's largest city is implementing novel solutions aimed at improving safety, including adding traffic barrels to prevent drive-by shootings and suspending minor traffic stops so officers can focus on immediate threats.

Well,  when you embolden criminals and hamstring police in the name of social justice, don't be surprised that you will get neither actual justice nor peace and instead get criminals running amok.

Portland wanted it, and now they got it.  Let's see if they can learn from it at all.

No Sympathy For BLM-Type That Blinded Helicopter Crew With A Laser

The Detroit News:  Detroit Will Breathe' protestor blinded flight crew, feds say

First, we can note that the dipstick in question, as can be seen in the photos in the article is rather on the pale side as is usual with the typical BLM/Antifa agitator.

Second, this asshat who blinded a flight crew of a helicopter and fought police claims to be a "street medic" at the demonstration.

Federal prosecutors Friday charged a "street medic" who participated in "Detroit Will Breathe” protests last year with shining a laser at a Detroit Police helicopter that temporarily blinded the crew.

Michael Sam Hurd, 32, of Fennville was charged with a felony punishable by up to five years in federal prison in one of the more serious charges to flow from protests in Detroit.

An awful lot of Antifa-type street medics seems to be up to very non-medical shenanigans while claiming to be medics, which is an act of perfidy that removes their status as "medics", as if they were ever entitled to any deference for using the term.

Next, aiming a laser to blind a flight crew is a no-no, regardless of where it occurred or if it occurred during a protest/riot, and his lawyer doesn't quite get that:

“This happened in the context of a Black Lives Matter demonstration going on so it is not like it took place at an airport or anything,” his lawyer David Cripps said.

That deflection attempt won't work counselor. Your asshat client blinded a flight crew over an urban area while in flight.  There are some obvious reasons why that is both a bad idea and a crime.

Good job on the investigation to catch this POS.  Lots of videotape that caught him in the act.

Hopefully Michael Sam Hurd gets the book thrown at him for his act of malicious stupidity.  Anyone shining lasers at people's eyes, whether in aircraft or not, should be prosecuted top the fullest.

Quite A Deliberate Ignoring of Reality Going On In BLM World

If you disregard facts, evidence, and bodycam footage, you can create some really impressive false narratives about white supremacy everywhere.

Two op-eds in the Detroit Free Press highlight this rather ridiculous narrative.  Both are very selective in dealing uncomfortable or contrary facts to their worldview and typically gloss over them in the most dishonest manner.

The first of course see white supremacy everywhere and blacks are apparently victimized by police on a regular basis:

Does Chauvin verdict signal real change or is it a mirage?

The most recent episodes of excessive and fatal police force against Black bodies continue to air on our TV, phone and computer screens.

First, this whole "black bodies" thing the Lefty academics do is rather curious.  After all it's rather dehumanizing isn't it? - I mean I consider black people to not just be  some undefined anonymizing "black bodies" but, you know, actual individual people and not just some mass of bodies.   But then again, that would imply that the Black bodies have agency and actually are responsible for the choices they make - like committing crimes and resisting arrest and the consequences of same.

And why shouldn't we be afraid, when you consider the minimally illegal alleged offenses for which police and civilians — some of them people of color — have killed Black men and women over the last 30 years? Lt. Nazario (license plate) and Daunte Wright (car air freshener) are now added to the exhaustive list of Blacks — including Eric Garner (cigarettes), Alton Sterling (bootleg CDs), George Floyd (counterfeit money), to name a few — who receive maximum and lethal force for minimal crimes.

First, let's note Lt. Nazario wasn't killed after he was resisting arrest, but nice try.

Second, quit lying about Daunte Wright - he was pulled over for an expired registration and had a felony warrant out for an aggravated armed robbery.

Third let's see here - to begin with, it's not the minimal crimes that they committed - minimal crimes I might add passed by Democrats in their cities and states - that caused them to get in a situation where they might die, but the fact that every single one of them decided that resisting arrest, in many cases violently, was the way to go.   I;m impressed he failed to add Freddie Grey to the list who was killed while trying to beat a police officer to death - not good for the narrative I suppose now that the whole hands up thing has been dis proven as a lie.

Though I am afraid I, too, will one day join the decades-long list of legalized racially motivated killings, most of all, I'm afraid that most of white society doesn't care that I'm afraid.

Here's some good advice Mr. Alemu, as a PhD candidate and thus an academic with a lack of knowledge of the world outside your ideological bubble, the secret to not getting killed by police is twofold: One - try not committing crimes in the first place. Two, Do not resist arrest if you do commit a crime and it will work out ok.

He also swings for the fences with a fun false comparison:

Must we accept that protests for the killing of Black bodies trigger the deployment of a state's National Guard almost immediately, while hundreds of whites — some armed — are able to stage a coup of our nation's Capitol with little to no police resistance, despite weeks of warnings?

Let's see, $2 billion dollars in damages by BLM so far and over 22 deaths, and the promise of more riots, arson, and confrontation if Chauvin wasn't railroaded, compared to a demonstration - not a "coup" - where nothing was set on fire and the only casualty was an unarmed woman killed by a police officer?

Pull the other one dude, it's got bells on and you can only lie so many times in one op-ed.

The next op-ed gets even cuter: Chauvin verdict is the exception, not the norm, in 'justice' system

While news of the verdict was still sinking in, we learned that police in Columbus, Ohio killed a 16-year-old girl, Ma’Khia Bryant. It was at least the second time in weeks that police killed a child; Chicago police shot 13-year-old Adam Toledo on March 29.  . . . It was not any safer to wake up today as a Black child, a Black elder, a brown child, or anyone vulnerable to the murderous gaze of white supremacy in the U.S.

Oh come on now, she must think the readers of the op-ed are amazingly ignorant.

Let's remind everyone, as the opinion piece quickly and neatly glosses over it, and totally ignores the fact that dear sweet Ma'Khia Bryant was in the process of trying to stab to death two other black girls when she was shot. It also ignores that little gang-banger Adam Toledo was turning with a gun in his hand after running away from police after he and a fellow felon had shot up a passing car.

Totes innocent victims of police brutality, neh?

The op-ed goes on extolling the virtues of defunding police and incarceration of criminals which will be just great for Detroit - if you're a criminal.  For everyine else, not so much.

Sadly these rather trite fact-optional views seem to be taking sway among the left, which will have bad consequences for all of us.  Facts are clearly merely things that get in the way of their rather false narrative.

So As A Police Officer You Better Decide Quickly Which Black Life Matters

So which one's life matters?

You're a police officer called to a scene of a fight, and have already seen the "loving, peaceful little girl" in this fight try to stab one girl and observe her as she goes after another who is pinned in place by a car.

So, you better choose quickly:

So, as a police officer are you going to allow the Black life in pink to get stabbed and potentially killed by the Black life stabbing at her with a knife or not?

BLM and its supporters apparently don't care that there's a lethal knife attack going on putting a Black life in immediate jeopardy - note that it is not a knife fight when there's only one knife in play.

The tweets from the progressives over the incident are rather insane:

Valerie Jarrett, tweeted:  ‘A Black teenage girl named Ma’Khia Bryant was killed because a police officer immediately decided to shoot her multiple times in order to break up a knife fight. Demand accountability.  Fight for justice.’

BLM co-founder Bree Newsome tweeted:

Teenagers have been having fights including fights involving knives for eons. We do not need police to address these situations by showing up to the scene & using a weapon against one of the teenagers. Y’all need help. I mean that sincerely.

Read those tweets again and realize they are not based in reality, at all. BLM takes the side of the criminal, always.

Note also that the video shows that the baby daddy of Ma'Khia Bryant is busy not attempting to break up the fight or get his daughter to drop a lethal weapon, but is instead trying to kick the other girl who is down on the sidewalk.

Charming.

Imagine the outrage if the police officer decided, following these tweets as inspiration -  "Heck, teens have been having fights involving one side having a knife for eons, I'm gonna just leave and go get some doughnuts and let them fight it out."

Think Ferguson effect writ large.

That is what BLM is advocating here, a rather recurring theme where BLM advocates that Black criminals should be free to resist arrest if they feel like it, and should instead be left to conduct their criminal ways without police intervention - no matter the cost to other lives.  Those other lives being Black or other races that don't get a nice sign.

Surprising No One But BLM, No Charges In Police's Self-Defense Shooting Of Hakim Littleton

In one of the clearest cases of appropriate police conduct resulting in the death of a criminal, Detroit Police appropriately shot and killed Hakim Littleton after he shot at Police back in July 2020.

We finally have a charging determination in the case by the Wayne County Prosecutor.

The Detroit Free Press: Prosecutor: No charges filed in officer-related death of Hakim Littleton

No one but Detroit's BLM group and the race hustlers should be surprised by this decision in the least.

It should not have taken even this long to come to that conclusion.   The video footage of scumbag Littleton's attempted murder of a police officer, and then his becoming a good criminal immediately thereafter is rather definitive.

Detroit BLM Still Beating A Very Dead Horse

A drug-using-felon-that-shot-at-a-police-officer-dead-horse to be precise.

The ill-chosen poster child for Detroit's BLM moment,  Hakim Littleton was a gang member and druggie who was properly shot by police after drawing and firing two shots at point-blank range at a police officer.

All of this was caught on camera in July 2020, so there's no dispute as to the facts.

That doesn't stop Detroit's BLM group and other race card players from continuing to make stuff up and demand "investigations" of a very open and shut case.

The Detroit News: Hakim Littleton's family, group demand 'credible' probe of police shooting

They make a laughable claim that if Littleton was White and from nice Grosse Point rather than Detroit it wouldn't have happened.

Since Whites from Grosse Point don't tend to shoot at police when approached, they may very well be onto something there.

However, since that's not what they mean, I can pretty much guarantee that if a person pulls a gun on a cop and fires some shots at them from a few feet away, you are going to get shot in response to your actions, regardless of your color or geographic origin.

Detroit's BLM White supporters are certainly invited to go try this out and lets us all know what happens, you know, for science.  Lest you think that is encouraging progressive idiots to commit suicide by cop, that is sarcasm and not written with an intent for idiots to actually try same.

Chief Craig Explains The Difference

Progressives were outraged recently (or just continued to be outraged, it;s hard to tell sometimes) that BLM and Antifa types were arrested  during demonstrations in Detroit recently while Trump supporters protesting the way the election is being mishandled in Detroit were not.

Detroit Police Chief Craig points out that the subtle difference in the treatment between the two groups was based on their behavior.  So very subtle, yet blindingly obvious to all but the progressive types.

Law Enforcement Today: Detroit Police Chief on why pro-Trump protesters and BLM treated differently: ‘Because they were peaceful’

Rather obvious, but not to the oblivious progressives.

Quick hints for BLMers to prevent getting arrested during your next protest:

1. Don't throw bottles at police;

2. Don't throw bricks at police;

3. Indeed, don't throw anything at police.

Apparently this is very hard for BLM types to understand.

Part of the problem is the left's misapprehension and belief that their violence is speech, while anyone else's speech (or lack thereof) is violence.

There's A Disconnect Between What J.Q. Public Thinks The Cops Can Do, And What They Actually Can Do

The riots and protests in Philly, and subsequent pandering by the Biden campaign over the incident are a result of the ignorant believing the cops should have done something other than shoot a mentally-ill man coming at them with a knife.

Of course the Biden campaign decided this was the pre-election BLM moment to seize upon:

Yep, they are absolutely convinced that a man who happened to be Black, and was in the process of attacking officers with a knife had a life that "mattered".  It's rather clear they believe the police officers lives (at least one of whom involved also happened to be Black) don't matter.

Already people are stating Wallace was 12 feet away from the police when they shot him and the knife couldn't reach them from there so they shouldn't have shot him as he wasn't close enough.  John Q Public doesn't know about and has never seen a Tueller drill.

We already have the Wallace family playing the ghetto lottery and announcing a wrongful death suit claiming the cops should have done something else other than shooting Wallace while he was attacking him, claiming he was "assassinated".

No, that word does not mean what they think it means.

The Wallace family, the Biden campaign, et al., expected the cops to do "something else" when faced by a man advancing on them with a knife.

Partially, this is because there is a tremendous disconnect between what the public thinks the police are trained and able to do and what they are actually trained and able to do.

Hence the commenters with "He was 12 feet away", "Why didn't they just shoot the knife out of his hand?", or just per Biden "shoot him in the leg?" or, “Why didn’t you just close with him and use your hand to hand skills to get the knife out of his hand?, you could have easily done that right and no one would get hurt, right?”
The public thinks police are trained to be super-marksmen, experts at martial arts, and able to ensure compliance with no one getting hurt if they just want that to happen by words alone.

Partially this is due to politicians claiming just let the police handle it as they are the “professionals”. Then add Hollywood to the mix and the average person thinks all cops are trained to be super-SWAT black belts that can't miss and can disarm someone with the flick of a wrist, and it’s easy to see where this misapprehension comes from.
Instead, in reality most police get minimal training in hand to hand skills, barely any refresher training in those skills, and just adequate training in firearms.
Reality also dictates going hand-to-hand against a person armed with a knife is going to most likely result in the officer getting cut, perhaps very badly.

The average person also doesn’t realize how dangerous a crazed individual with a knife can be.

Reality also dictates that just shooting them in the leg or shooting the knife out of their hand is not going to work in real life how Hollywood makes it appear. The officer is going to miss, or maybe instead hit and the attacker will likely bleed out via their femoral artery in their leg, or the brachial artery in their arm.

In short, the public's ignorance, encouraged by the media and politicians, lead them to think police can do what they currently cannot and they get outraged when reality doesn't meet their fantasy impression of how a situation should be resolved.  Throw in a little race baiting and you get riots as a result.

Really Slate?

A rather telling headline and article from Slate today:

Yep, really.  Apparently having the temerity to call the police when someone commits a crime in your presence should make you "pay".

In short, Slate is advocating that victims of crimes not call the cops, or there will be consequences.

Thar's not threatening in any way now is it?

Kinda a more genteel "Snitches get stitches" approach to crime, neh?

Again, Slate is stating that the owners of a business where a clerk properly called the police on someone committing a crime should "pay" for daring to do so.

Apparently having demonstrations outside your store and it being vandalized with graffiti, and getting threats is insufficiently paying for the dreadful act of calling the cops on a criminal with said criminal resisting arrest and things going downhill from there.

There's also the minor interesting issue of a mosque being in the store's basement and the racial conflict and the animosity of the existence of an Arab-owned store operating in a predominantly Black neighborhood - and the article goes into  a rather detailed look at all the crime that occurs around the store including drug activity.

It's an interesting look at the progressive mindset on crime - the victim is to be blamed for not simply taking it, and the criminal is not the one responsible for the outcome of his criminal acts.

So, Detroit PD Are Down To Throwing Bricks Back Or Using Live Fire

Lawfare continues apace as local Detroit BLM types, with the help of the National Lawyers Guild, a communist legal front, seek to hamstring the Detroit Police from keeping order during the local BLMers "mostly peaceful" demonstrations.

You know,  those "mostly peaceful" demonstrations protesting on behalf of attempted cop killers where mostly peaceful rocks, bricks, and bottles are thrown at cops in a mostly peaceful kind of manner.

The Detroit News: City seeks changes to order banning Detroit police use of tear gas, rubber bullets on protesters

Yep, a Federal District Court judge, an Obama appointee, had quickly granted an injunction of behalf of Detroit Will Breathe prohibiting Detroit police from using less-than-lethal riot control methods.

What could possibly go wrong?

This leaves Detroit Police with  the following options when the local BLM types start again throwing "mostly peaceful" rocks, bottles, bricks, etc at them:

1. They can ask them to stop, and then ask them to stop again;

2. They can throw the bricks, etc, back at the protesters; or

3. They can use live fire to protect themselves as less-lethal options including use of batons, tear gas, and pepper spray are now all off the table.

If that sounds imbecilic, it's because it is indeed imbecilic.

The Detroit Police and City have at least gotten creative after the injunction was entered.

They've rather cleverly decided to file a motion asking the judge to make the injunction mutual and enjoining Detroit Will Breathe and company from throwing rocks, bottles, and bricks at police.  The judge has yet to rule on that motion but has required a response from Detroit Will Breathe et al., which should be entertaining reading.

So, What Are The Odds?

Approximately, and the data seems to be hard to find,  1 in 50 Wisconsinites overall has a felony record.

So whats the odds that it turns out that all 3 of the attackers of Kyle Rittenhouse had felony records?

One pedo sex offender, one felony domestic abuser, and one felony burglar.  Quite the trifecta.

For those of you wondering what the answer is, and what the odds actually are, well, per a statistics person I know who just communicated the answer to me, the odds are roughly 1 in 10,000.
