DEI Means Failing Upwards

So he went from being one of the reasons for the Flint. Michigan water crisis to heading what is now potentially the largest wastewater spill in United states history - in Washington DC.

Because of DEI and he's a Democrat and a favored minority both.

So after failing and misleading the community in Flint about the lead contamination, he was then appointed to head DC's water system. He then systematically removed experienced white executives to replace them with minorities to ensure the executives looked like the people they served.

If It Were The Other Way 'Round

There would be protests, shops likely would be looted, cities might even get set on fire.

In a lovely example of Anarcho-Tyranny, and a two-tier justice system in Washington DC,  two of the Black teen assailants (of the multiple teens that committed the attack) of the white DOGE employee Edward Coristine were just sentenced.

The male teen was found guilty of felony assault, simple assault, robbery and attempted robbery in the incident, and the female was convicted of simple assault.

 They both got, yep, you guessed it:

Probation with no jail time.

Good to know you can commit felony assault, simple assault, robbery and attempted robbery in one attack and get probation and walk out of the courtroom free and clear.  Well, you won't.

Because this judge is all about rehabilitation rather than punishment for the two attackers in question.

Just imagine the outcome if the races in question were reversed.

There Is Nothing Government Operates That Cannot Lose Money

From marijuana, to whorehouses to now legalized gambling.  Government somehow always manages to lose money on a sure thing.

Reason: D.C. Managed To Lose $4 Million on Its Own Sports Betting App

After the D.C. Council approved sports gambling in the district in 2018, it further authorized a single company to develop the GambetDC app, at a cost of $215 million over five years. In return, the District hoped to see annual tax revenues of $20 million from bets placed. Instead, the lottery admitted this week that the D.C. government only took in about $1.5 million from the app in 2021, its first full year of operation. In fact, after adjusting for the cost of advertising the app, the government actually lost more than $4 million last year. 

One has to wonder at the relationship, if any, of the company to any of the City Council members or officials for this kind of deal to get authorized, or is it just standard government inefficiency and lack of any business acumen and oversight at work?

If the rosiest projection is it costs $215 million and you're expecting a revenue of only $20 million per year, then that's over a 10 year period before you even see any positive cash flow from the venture (DC council, I'm sure, hates the word profit).  

That's bad enough, but to then show a loss of $4 million a year due to it not working destroys these projections entirely and makes you wonder if anyone did any due dilligence on this at all.  DC losing money from legalized gambling is simply nuts.

Of course, it's not their money at stake, and it's unlikely that any of the decision makers will suffer any consequences from this which partially explains why these inexplicable losses keep occurring - the ones making the decision have no skin in the game and no downside to their bad bets, and in fact win either way while the taxpayers take the loss.

Road Trip Week: Arrival In Washington DC

After Johns Hopkins, we headed towards Washington DC.

Leah was staying with a friend for the week in DC while we looked at Campuses with the elder child.  So we got an AirBNB in their Tenlytown neighborhood which was very nice.  It is a very SWPL place, Whole Foods in walking distance, along with a smoothie place, and a great Mediterranean quick service restaurant.

In DC, they have masks on everywhere even outside with the only exception being for vigorous physical exercise under their mayor's edict  - which is why quite a few people were out jogging or walking their dogs, everyone else had masks on.

They've got quite a bit of Stockholm Syndrome going on in Tenlytown:

Lots of these signs festooned the neighborhood.  

They were joined with the "Please Don't Break Our Windows" a/k/a BLM signs, and various other forms of virtue signalling.  

Very tolerant stuff indeed, but as told to me by a friend that lives there  in the neighborhood, the tolerance only goes so far - don't have any Republican bumper stickers in sight on your car as the oh-so-caring progressives in the neighborhood will key it. 

We have no stickers on our cars for that reason among others, but our having a Michigan license plate apparently ticked someone off, as our windshield was cheesed during the night.  Yes someone threw a couple pieces of Swiss cheese on the front windshield which was rather disgusting, not to mention a waste of Swiss cheese.  We cleaned that off and then headed out to check on the cherry blossoms.

Bring The Boys (And Girls) Back Home

I am unaware of any actual or continuing insurgency that has occurred or is ongoing in DC that would necessitate the continued stationing of our National Guard in our nation's capital.

Indeed, the National Guard could be put to better use in Portland to support the police there to quell the ongoing progressive civil disturbance,(none dare call it an insurgency),  but that's been ruled out apparently.  Funny, that.

On top of the insult to injury to have twenty-five thousand National Guard soldiers taken from their home states and jobs to be stationed in our capital for appearances, there's this:

That's simply unacceptable and an outrage. 

Yes, heads should darn well roll for whoever in charge gave out and administered that contract (doubly so if any kickbacks or backscratching, or political favors in awarding the contract occurred). The contractors should be fined and jailed for their conduct in foisting such garbage on our troops.

 If you can't properly feed and house the troops -- in peacetime -- in our nation's capital, where there's no actual threat requiring their being stationed there, then in the words of the anti-war left,  Bring the Boys Home. They've been sent there for an unpopular occupation with no end game, victory condition, or date of departure in sight and that's unacceptable. 

Time to bring them all home.
