Still about 500K people here without power. Both office and home are still without and temperatures are going to drop into the freezing point tonight.
Per a buddy in the disaster recovery industry, we're going to leave the taps slightly open to keep water running through the piping to stop them from freezing.
Last night wasn't bad at the house - piled up in sleeping bags and blankets it was ok in the 40s in the house and about 28 outside, but it will be a lot colder tonight, going into freezing temperatures.
Verily, this doth suck.
Update: Power restored yesterday, thankfully just before the outside temp dropped hard. Certainly I'll be looking into some kerosene or propane heaters and possibly a generator per the helpful comments.

I understand this MI weather. I live here in Muskegon. This is the craziest winter that can remember in a long time. The last 5 or 6 years have been totally nuts. One day, I am outside shooting my pistol on the range, and the next, I am hiding inside from the cold blowing snow. Gotta love Michigan. Stay safe, and best of luck with the power.
Time to get a generator, a long extension cord, and an electric space heater!
YOu don't have a KeroSun or other kerosene heater to keep your house above freezing?
Cheap insurance, really, (for next time) and Kero stores FOREVER in sealed containers.
Just sayin'
Time for a woodstove, buddy! Or a fireplace insert if your house is so equipped.
Or you could get Tash a woodburning cookstove for the kitchen! She'd like that wouldn't she?
Kerosene stinks, and u cant leave it on at night, but i've got a big one that can heat my whole house plus boil water on top its protective cage. Havent had to use it often but sure was handy when i did.
Yeah - they tell you that you shouldn't use it after a year but my stuff still burns fine years later.
If you go propane, these are on sale right now:

All you need is a couple of grill size tanks(20 lbs)(figure 1 of them per day, minimum) to keep your house warm, or at least above freezing....
My grandad used to say that you needed three forms of heat for bad days...
I've never been sorry I took his advice, even if I only use it once every three years or so.
