Animal activists estimate the city is home to 50,000 strays. Dogs have knocked down fences and run through glass doors toward mail carriersThe dogs are attacking mail carriers and otherwise making nuisances of themselves.
Of course, dogs are not the only threat mail carriers and others face in Detroit, there's human animals as well.
Wesley said dogs aren't the only problem. His letter detailed three incidents since December in which carriers were caught in gunfire and another involving a carrier accosted with a gun. "In my tenure … I have never seen the multiplicity of dangerous events spiraling at the same time," the letter read.In other words, Welcome to Detroit 2011.
