President Obama's Red Line Calculus tough talk seems to have resulted in a rhetorical miscalculation.
Officials in the Obama administration are trying to walk his strident declaration back,
claiming his statement that Syrian use of chemical weapons would be a red line was a gaffe. After all, this president has admitted he
never took calculus.
The Toronto Star:
Evidence Syrian rebels used chemical weapon sarin, says UN
Dang, he might have to be seen to do something now, or be shown as impotent on the world stage.
Apparently, strident demands with nothing to back them up don't work very well. Unlike Teddy Roosevelt's foreign policy of "
speak softly and carry a big stick", Obama goes with the "speak loudly and carry no stick" school of foreign policy.
As many have known for quite some time, Obama's Smart Power isn't.
