Yep, it's like searching for a needle in a haystack, only in the dark, in the cold, underwater, and with thousands of miles of lakescape to try and find it, and that's if it hasn't been buried completely under silt and is completely buried by now.

McGyver: Not that we know of. As an aside, Clive Cussler actually is a real-life ship-wreck hunter with his own search organization called NUMA (what else?) who has found lots of historic wrecks including.

He's quite the intrepid underwater explorer.
