Well This Has Been Fun

In my absence from blogging, I took younger child to University if Florida for her orientation.  More on that later. In short, it was incredibly well organized, information flowed by the ton, and she's now really looking forward to attending and has already made new friends with some great kids.

However, at some point, whether it was during Preview, sitting in the airport, or on the plane ride home, or even in the shuttle on the way to get back to the car I got exposed to Covid.

So this is now my fourth bout of Covid. Yay.

Certainly worse than my third bout with it, which solely showed up on a test with no symptoms.

For the fourth exposure, instead of nothing, I got the ugly full on man-flu effect.

Massive tiredness and lack of energy for the past three days, and a fever and congestion along with it.  Basically, I believed it was a flu until I did a Covid test, and that home test started glowing positive so quickly, it was impressive to watch.

Rations for the next few days will likely consist of pizza, pancakes, flounder, and whatever else is flat and can be slid under a door.

Not pleasant, but it feels just like a flu with no more ugliness than that, and no respiratory distress.

I think I'm already starting to improve so blogging will catch up as I catch up with work etc.

Thankfully younger daughter, who was with me the entire time, has no symptoms whatsoever and likely didn't get covided. Go figure.

Time For 3rd Winter

All that wind on Saturday was from a cold front blowing right on in.

It has brought much lower temperatures and some snow with it.

Yep, we have snow in the air and enough to accumulate on the ground both yesterday and today.

Yes right now it is below freezing and snowing here right now.  Not a lot, but enough to remind us it is still winter in Michigan even with the respite of the lovely t-shirt weather the last couple weeks.

That's weather in Michigan for you.

It Wouldn’t Be Michigan Without

Snow in April.

Yesterday was beautiful, sunny and nice with temperatures up in the 80s.

So, of course,  today it snowed. Yes, really.

Happily it’s not sticking around and piling up but it’s still making it a messy drive and an ugly grey day.

It's been snowing on and off all day, no accumulation until now, with a pittance sticking around for a bit, but not much.

That White Stuff On The Ground Means It's Time To Slow Down

Just enough snow and ice present on the streets this morning to present a problem for the morning commute.

It's not a lot and the streets look pretty clear, and that is the problem.  A lot of clear ice abounds.

A lot of people have forgotten how to drive in the winter, and with driving skills already degraded by the Covid shutdowns, it really shows.

Saw a couple decent traffic accidents on the way to work already due to cars not being able to brake in sufficient time on ice.  In short, ice just laughs at your brakes, and inertia is not your friend at an iced-over intersection.

Winter is a time to give yourself more space and increased stopping distance, and to plan to give yourself more time for your commute due to the need to drive in a more careful and controlled manner.

There's more coming in tonight to create a slippery layer on the morrow, so plan ahead for your morning drive.

Winter Hath Come

Some things really aren't better late than never.

Probably shouldn't complain too much as we had one heckuva pleasant December but today royally sucked.

Leaving the office to go to court early this afternoon I found the car encased in a layer of ice. Freezing rain continued throughout the 35 minute drive to the court, turning it into a 50 minute drive. Filing done, and heading back to the office and then the fun really began.

Between people driving too slow for conditions and those driving way too fast for conditions it was a mess.

Got caught in a nice bumper to bumper traffic jam that had a 8 lane road down to one lane in each direction due to a really impressive accident.

The salt truck was stuck behind the accident so finally getting past led to still more slow-to-no moving traffic.

It's still coming down in a mix of snow and freezing rain so it's gonna be a neat trick to get down the Driveway of Doom™ tomorrow.

Ah well, it's been a good run, but winter is now well and truly here.

Flu Me Once

Feeling better today, no more fever is an improvement but I'm certainly still dragging along in low gear.

The important question I had during the fever was:  Who let this mule in, and why is it kicking me in the head?

Then there was a profound fever-fueled realization:  You shouldn't believe atoms! They make up everything!

Yeah, it seemed a lot more profound at the time.

These thoughts came to me while lying on the couch in the basement trying to sleep so I didn't spread the flu to the remaining uninfected people in the house.  So far it hasn't spread so the self-quarantine may have helped.

NyQuill, even the newer formula does help quite a bit but it wears off a bit earlier than I'd like.  An 8-hour formula would be much preferred for a full night's sleep.

Down With The Sickness

I blame Murphy's Law and figure I caught his virus through my computer.

Symptoms are awfully similar, or similarly awful.

More realistically it likely came from Leah as children are lovable little disease vectors. She brought it home from school and it hit her Sunday afternoon hard, was delirious for a bit and finally snapped back enough to be fever-free for 24 hours and able to go to school today.

I woke up with the suggestion of it and after trooping into work this morning by noon I decided it had gotten the better of me and I headed home.

On the upside, being unable to stand up lets me lie on the couch and watch Breaking Bad while I await my end.

On the downside, the show makes me really annoyed that the government removed the good stuff from Vick's NyQuil just to prevent a bunch of idiots from using it to make meth.  This hasn't stopped the appearance of meth but sure has put a dent in the effectiveness of Vick's for all the decent, law-abiding flu sufferers.

Winter Blows

So after shoveling the Driveway of Doom™ twice yesterday, we awoke today to yet more snow.

Over two inches and its still coming down, blowing around and making the roads a hazardous experience.

We've well and truly broken the record for the most snow in January, beating the last record set in 1880.

More snow is still on the way, along with freezing temperatures, which is just ducky.

Hmm, anyone got some attorney job offers open in Florida or North Carolina?
