Snow Far, Snow Not So Good

So snow has been going since early morning slow and steady, and hasn't stopped yet and indeed just picked up the pace.

Schools are closed, roads are a mess and working from home is the way to go today.

We may indeed hit the forecast 4-6 inches at this rate.

Update:  We exceed the 6 inch estimate and they're claiming we got 8.

Snowmageddon Or Snow-meh-geddon Approaches

Schools are already cancelled in the area.

The kids are happy as it is their first snow day in two years - Don't be in a hurry to blame global warming - last year was remote only so no snow days were to be had.

So far, it is raining and melting some of the snow currently on the ground,  but it's expected to turn to freezing rain then snow by 10am with 12-16 inches expected to fall in our area.

That's a lot of snow, and could set a new record for this time of year.

So we're all tucked in here at the house.  We already have all necessary French Toast and Hot Chocolate making supplies on hand.

I'm currently medically prohibited from doing so, but both the snow blower and shovels are at the ready for everyone else to use.  I guess I'll just have to direct the snow clearing activities from within the house and keep the hot chocky flowing.

We will see if the Court Zoom hearing with the pro pers still goes forward later today.

Snow Day!

Another snow day was declared today at 6:23 am, unfortunately after Abby had already gotten up and ready for school at 6am.

Even with that late announcement, there was still much rejoicing.

Breakfast choice of the day is old-fashioned oatmeal from scratch.

Snow clearance from the Driveway of Doom™ continues apace, and I will have it completed timely and we will be to work on time.

On the upside, it's nice to get all the snow in one continuous storm rather than the annoying and typical daily 1/4" that is just a slippery mess that has to be cleared before the driveway can be safely used.

The real reason for the snow day today? Remember how I said it was very wet and heavy snow yesterday? Well, that wet snow has turned to solid ice under a layer of fresh snow, making the roads an icy, slide-y mess. Lots of fun.

Snowstorm Season

We're finally getting a decent winter storm.

Last night they decided to schedule a school snow day for today, which the ids certainly appreciated as there's been a distinct lack of snow days this winter season until now.

In the morning there was less than a quarter inch dusting of snow on the ground.

Well, it wasn't the morning they were worried about, but the afternoon school let-out. Turns out they got that part right.

It's been coming down steadily since 2pm. Roads have been a complete mess.

Lots of wet snow, so the snow blower doesn't blow, it just sucks.

I've done the driveway thrice by shovel already to keep up, and its still coming down at a good clip.

We may indeed hit the forecast 7-inch snowmageddon.

Yes School Wednesday - Snow But Without The Snow Day

Breaking precedent, school was surprisingly not cancelled today.

By 6:00 2 inches had already fallen and the snowfall is continuing.

Surprised they didn't continue the run of no-school Wednesdays, but I think the teachers and administrations have figured that they are out of bad weather days and they don't want to be tacking additional school days on in June.

Short of the governor resetting the bad weather day count and "pardoning" the missed days, they will have to extend into the summer, and they don't want that.

Plowed the Driveway of Doom™ twice already so the kids and Tash could get out. Roads suck yet again, but thankfully we fully chipped the ice off the driveway yesterday, otherwise we would have been well and truly hosed today and it would have been impassable.

Ice, Ice, Baby.

Today we experienced another of a Michigan Winter's charms: An ice storm.

Road are slick and slippery and the Driveway of Doom™ is covered in a quarter inch thick sheer coating of ice and schools are closed again for the 4th consecutive Wednesday in a row.

The kids claim this means the No School Wednesdays clause is invoked and is now in effect and their schools can no longer hold classes on Wednesdays after consistently cancelling them for a month in a row. It may be a myth but if enugh students beleive it with sufficient fervor....

The School Board rejects this reality and is substituting it own as Michigan schools are running short of snow/bad weather days.

On the upside both kids have decided that school time off means they need to do other things and one of them is baking. They just made an awesome chocolate cake complete with icing from scratch following a recipe with most tasty results. After chipping all that ice, a chocolate cake is rather happy-making.
